Just hope you're not one to become a Frontier customer with the sale. It's all smoke & mirrors and broken down wagons. http://arstechnica.com/business/2016/03/verizon-sale-of-fios-and-dsl-network-in-three-states-closes-next-week/

Today Frontier has announced that the "Vantage" brand used by "VantageTV" is expanding over to Vantage Internet and Vantage Voice. This is the new platform name for Frontier, Frontier Vantage. Think of "Vantage" as AT&T U-verse TV, internet, and phone 2.0. "We launched our Vantage™ brand today — a premium all-digital platform that includes TV HD offerings, ultra-fast broadband and enhanced VoIP. " This affects Connecticut, Durham, North Carolina, and future "Vantage" markets. http://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20160323006209/en/Frontier-Communications-Launches-Vantage%E2%84%A2-Brand Key points - "- Superior HD picture quality; - 4K ultra-high-definition (UHD) capability in select markets; - Up to 1TB storage; - Total Home DVR records up to four shows at once and lets viewers pause, rewind and play back live TV and store more - than 170 hours of HD programming; - My Favorite Channel Multi-View creates a custom list of more than 50 favorite channels; - Instant channel change allows super-fast navigation through an Interactive guide; - Video On Demand Library will contain more than 100,000 movies and TV shows; - Channel Peeks—maintains full screen viewing while “peeking” into other programs on Live TV and DVR; - Next generation enhanced search delivers real-time results by program name, actor/actress and other keywords across - Live TV, Video on Demand, and DVR recordings; and - Interactive applications include Social TV (access to Twitter and Facebook), Weather, Interactive Workout, Home Shopping Network and interactive games." "Frontier will introduce Vantage TV to more than 3 million households over a 3 to 4 year period. " "Frontier's pending acquisition of wireline assets in California, Texas and Florida will provide Frontier with the opportunity to introduce Vantage TV service to more than 3 million additional households." Not sure how Fiberhouse will be branded in this. No idea if the Fiberhouse brand will be merged into Vantage Internet or have combo branding.

Go here: https://frontier.com/contact-us/senior-member and enter your zip code. You'll get a page that lists the email addresses of senior management for your area. Politely but firmly explain in an email to those contacts that your connection is suffering from congestion at key points in Frontier's network. Include traceroutes if you understand them and can clearly point to where the issue is on Frontier's network. Describe how the service slows to crawl during prime usage hours and works fine the rest of the day. Explain how this slow service is impacting our ability to stream video, play online games, and other detriments to your using their service. Do this about once a week until the issue is resolved. Remain polite. -- ♬ Dragon of good fortune struggles with the trickster Fox ♬

Verizon Customer Not Getting A Warm Fuzzy

There's information to register for Frontier user name on the meet frontier site. I started the process. If enter a mobile number, then you are required to allow solicitations so removed it. Then in the final step you have authenticate your account. I was given a choice of a phone number I did not recognize and billing PIN on my Frontier bill. So you cannot sign up without a billing PIN which you do not have. Then it gets better, I call them and after going through the phone tree, the rep named Tammy told me that they were having a system update and to call back in one hour. I really beginning to think we are about to get shafted by the Verizon selling of the Texas market.

[FIOS] New DVR system (Quantum?)

$

Hi, I know there is a forum talking about the new DVR system that Frontier is offering, loosely it appears to be the Quantum DVR system that Verizon is offering. However, I am looking to see if anyone can provide any inputs they may have that have jumped on the new service. I am tempted to call Frontier to get the new DVR, but would like to see if anyone can provide their experience after upgrading to the new DVR. It appears to require a tech to come out and I assume that it involves an upgrade to the ONT, work inside the house for the cabling, etc. The additional capacity (1 TB) and the ability to utilize more than two tuners at once is enticing to me, but I'd like to understand what the pitfalls may be in going for it. But it also appears that you are down to one STB (the DVR unit) that handles the tuning for all the STBs in the house, so while being able to record > two channels at a time is what interests me, if it only has six tuners, are these six tuners shared across all the STBs in the house, then that might cause concern. Right now I have four HD STBs in the house other than the Multi-Room DVR I have. So while being able to record more than two shows at once is great, if it means that recording four shows at one time means that only two tuners are available for the rest of the household, this may cause some issues that will impact me (read, my significant other suddenly can't watch her show on another STB because the tuners are tied up recording shows). I'm in the Fort Wayne, IN FIOS market. Thank you, Jerry

[FiOS] Business Owners: New Symmetrical Speeds Rolled Out!

So I checked a couple of days ago, and Frontier's business page was totally remodeled. And part of that remodel was the rollout of new SYMMETRICAL speeds for us business owners! So looks like they are now offering: 15/5, 30/30, 50/50, 75/75, 100/100, and 150/150. Our area has 150/150, so I'm upgrading to that from the 35/35 that I've had since the Verizon rollout. Even better is, at least for me, my price is going DOWN. Truck roll is scheduled for 11/13, and I hope it goes smoothly!

Is 1 Gbps Coming To CT?

Hmm, I was over at their Facebook page and they posted something that caught my attention. They were posting pictures of their involvement in the UBS Parade Spectacular in Stamford, CT and their parade float had "Frontier Gigabit Service Awaits You" with a large picture with "1 Gig" on it. Anyone heard anything? Edit: I started typing in random URLs and I found this https://frontier.com/offer/ctgig with a similar picture. I uploaded the picture in question: [att=1]

[FIOS] Verizon FiOS static IPs?

I've noticed my static IP block is on a new ASN for Frontier. Does this mean we get to keep our IPs? Verizon give up their static FiOS blocks? If so awesome! I'll take 1 or 2 days of bad routing for a rather smooth transition from here on out.

[DSL] Frontier - Happy Story.

Hello. I'm in the Sacramento, Ca area. I started out with dial up and got DSL when Frontier took over from Citizens Communications some years ago. It was initially running at 2-3 mbps download and .6 up. Several years ago, it was raised to 7-8 mbps and has been fairly consistent ever since with an occasional outage due to weather. Recently, I was offered an upgrade to 12 mbps for no additional charge. This was done about two weeks ago and all was well until the system went down in speed to 1.5 mbps for about two days last week. I called and started a repair ticket and they sent a technician out. He got the system back up for me and now it's running a consistent 10-11 mbps. The guarantee 80% of the rated speed so this is within specifications. I was informed that the slow speed was due to damage to a major Chicago Trunk line which has now apparently been repaired since the speed is back up. I filled out a survey asking me to tell Frontier how the service was handled and I had no complaints. I even got a telephone call from the Frontier General Manager stating that further upgrades are in the works within the next 90 days. I'm well aware that Frontier gets a lot of bad reviews. I guess the response and reception has a lot to do with what area you live in. I can only say that I can't complain.

Not a good start in Tampa

In Tampa frontier has started to take over some nodes. Friday morning we come in and have 4 ipsec vpn sites down in various ways and several with ping times that jumped from 30ms to 150ms overy night. We run a monitoring server and have charts from every 20 seconds for months. The 3 that were totally non functional were were all with brighthouse, some ip addresses were just not accisible and some were establishing the tunnell but the encrypted data was not valid when recieved. One site is up but none of the wireless client data is making it back to us, which i immeadiately rejected as a frontier issue until we moved them to the other carrier just for fun. We have other entry points from level3 and all issues resolved and the tunnells and back up and fully functional once moved. The verizon support call was 2.5 hours of hell, Verizon pointing the finger at brighthouse and frontier, sating, we arent frontier until the 1st even thought I can see frontier in the trace route. I had hoped this would.be resolved Friday night but nothing changed yesterday and now I'm stuck. We had big plans for the new 500/500 fios being run into the main building. This required a build out and several months of waiting for permits. From what I'm seeing at this point it's dead in the water, as well as the other 5 locations. Randomly inaccessible ip addresses and latency of 160ms on lightly used connections is not the quality we are used to from fios. I've provided all the ips and trace route info to Verizon and they said other customers are reporting similar issues and they were turning it into an outage, is there a plan in place to resolve? Is this temporary? When will this be resolved?

Frontier Daily Network Maintenance Report

If you are having problems with your service from Frontier Communications, it is most likely due to the company doing planned network maintenance in your service area. Check the file before contacting Frontier. "Frontier’s CM-Events report provides a high level view of the planned network maintenance events that may impact services in 28 states across the U.S. where our Carrier customers do business. The CM-Events report provides general information such as state, CLLI, start date and time, end date and time and services affected. The daily CM-Events report may not be inclusive of all network maintenance activity. If you are experiencing network issues in an area not listed on the CM-Events report, please submit a trouble ticket to Frontier. [DSL] Slow internet

We used to be Verizon, I used to have 2 dryloop DSL lines, both used to yield around 8mbps peaking to around 10mbps. We then got the news about Frontier coming, and the stories about how bad they are. So they did the take over, there were many issues along the way, routing issues, disconnections, speed and so forth. In the past two years, I have had nothing but issues with them, I have since offloaded my TV service with them and my second DSL line as I will no longer pay for this shoddy service they provide. The issue, single threaded downloads are capped at just under 866Kbps, can't stream anything over it unless the server has capabilities from multi-thread connections. Download tests from my own server on a single thread confirms they are capping speeds, while multi-threads will peak out my provisioned speed, which has also dropped dramatically to less than 5Mbps. I use one well know speed test site, nothing that uses the Ookla tests, don't trust them, can't single thread from them. Anyway, I can run a single thread with the expected results, using multi-thread gives me the better speed, of which you would expect. So for 2 years I have been fighting with Frontier over this, they have been out and I proved to them the issue and they can't explain it, they have no idea why it is doing it, they tell me it is congestion, but if this were the case, surely my multi-thread connections would also show congestion?. I have no options, Frontier is it, they know it, they know what is going on, they are hiding the facts and now ignoring my requests for the fix to happen. The issue is not wiring, we tested right at the NIB, same results. I can see throughput on my network with a host of other information as I use PFSense on a very fast server. The issue is, Frontier is capping or some might prefer the term slowing the max throughput of a connection through their routers or whatever. This is more of a bitch than anything else, I have tried for years to get this fixed, I have tried everything I know including different hardware of which I know is not the problem. I know this, because I have a Ubiquity WiFi dish, I pointed it at a friends house not too far away and he allowed me to use his Cable connection, of which I was able to achieve 12Mbps over the air from about a mile away. You thoughts on this?

[Internet] New Frontier Terms includes "data usage charges" wording...

$

While this may just be good ol fashioned paranoia, I happened to notice that the new terms and conditions contains a section "NETWORK MANAGEMENT, USAGE LIMITATIONS AND FAIR USE POLICY", which worries me a little given all the data caps being imposed everywhere else, especially when reading section it clearly states: "Reasonable network management practices that Frontier may adopt include, but are not limited to, the following: (i) data usage charges; (ii) a modification of a customer's serving facility or service technology; and/or, (iii) a modification of or a limitation on a customer’s data throughput speed or data consumption. We're not a super heavy user, but I'd guess we're in the 500gb/month range; so I'm not sure what they think is excessive and this seems pretty open ended to me. I think I'll opt out of the new terms for now as it appears that the old terms were better for me and all. For those wondering, you just need to call 1-855-520-7258 within 30 days and opt out to only be subject to the old terms. Here is a link to the old terms: https://frontier.com/docs/terms/terms_frontierbroadband_termsandconditions_011415.pdf Here is a link to the new terms: https://frontier.com/docs/terms/terms_frontierbroadband_termsandconditions_121015.pdf If anyone catches anything else, I'd really be interested in bringing it to light here. This doesn't seem very pro-consumer to me.
