Just want to make sure I understand how this FIOS stuff works. I thought I did.. but now I am not so sure.
I started with an ONT connected by Coax to my FIOS Actiontec router. My quantum STB connects via COAX.
I ran an ethernet cable to my ONT and connected it to my Actiontec router. I called used the direct forum to get switch from coax to ethernet for the ONT / Router connection.
I know that the quantum STB has to use COAX....
I assumed that the STB needed coax from the Moca Connection on the FIOS router... but I removed the coax from the FIOS Router and the STB still got a TV signal. That puzzled me greatly.
Now I am thinking that even if you go to ethernet to the router... you STILL Need coax from the ONT to the quantum STB. Do all of these new 500/500 setups where they use ethernet to the router STILL require coax from the ONT to the quantum STB... I just assumed that you used either coax or ethernet from the ONT... not BOTH.
Does this make sense.... or am I just nuts?

Frontier; No longer offers TV
Territory; Tampa, Florida....
So Frontier no longer offers new customers TV...they offer Internet and Phone only. Confirmed with Frontier Customer Service. They use the Pandemic as the reason, surely truth be known, either they do not want to take on the costs of providing addil new customers TV, or, TV Providers have stopped allowing them to sign up New TV Customers given their financial situation. Verizon really did an injustice to this Territory when they sold to frontier, can only hope some day a full service Cable provider will come in and purchase this Terrirtory.....

NVG468MQ and MoCA 2.5 adapter
Playing around with the NVG468MQ and a new Actiontec 2.5 adapter. I have internet only with a ethernet run to router from ONT. I'm looking to increase internet speeds in my entertainment room as opposed to using wireless only. Hooked adapter to coax coming out of wall in entertainment room that I had used with my TiVoHD in past (cablecard before going OTA). Got power but no MoCA light putting the adapter between wall plate and TiVo. I have two possible coax connections near router and I tried both without success, nor did I get the coax light on the NVG468MQ to light up (never has been lit in past since I didn't need coax). Fast forward and I've now put the adapter between the router and the initial coax wall plate in my office and I get the coax lights on both the router as well as the adapter so the MoCA function would appear to be working. It was my impression that all I had to do was to put the adapter in my entertainment room between the TiVo and wall plate having connected the router with a coax cable to the outgoing coax in my office. Am I incorrect in assuming that I only need the one adapter?

Frontier TV Not being Offered
I saw another posted mention this and then get criticized and called a heretic, but I just wanted to chime in and say that I'm in the Tampa market as well and they are not offering TV service. I actually have Frontier (TV + Internet) now and it's still working fine, but called in to see about new customer promotions and found out. They are offering AT&T TV or DirectTV in its place. The girl did mention it's somewhat related to COVID19 stuff - which is kinda odd seeing as the installer needs to setup a router/internet or phone anyway.

[DSL] Frontier recently installed fiber fed dslam but cant upgrade service
Frontier recently (June 2020) installed a fiber-fed dslam half a mile from my house. I had a tech out today to give me a new modem and he said that I can get put onto that box for a speed increase. I used the frontier live chat to try to get the a tech out to install. They keep telling me that 1mb is all I can get. I was wondering if anyone on here had any ideas of who I can talk to who might know how I can get my line hooked into that box.

Internet and TV out since storm - any others in Brandon/Valrico out?
MoCA light out on ONT - two calls to tech support (largely no help).
Router can pull an IP if I reset the ONT, then two minutes later looses the IP.
Second tech support said there was an outage in the area (however this was after going through the normal script and him wanting to send a new router).
I am wondering if this was a "blowem smokem" technique or if there is really an outage in this area - lightning was horrible.

[FIOS] Problems connecting second G1100 via coax
Hoping for assistance on what I thought would be an easy task.
I'm following the steps in the following URL to hook up a second Verizon/Frontier G1100 router via coax. I've chosen option 2 but didn't make it past step 2. I am unable to connect to router #2 default gateway.
http://www.dslreports.com/faq/15984
Setup - Router #1
ONT to coax. Coax directly to G1100 router. The router sits on my desk. I connect via ethernet to my company laptop, company CISCO phone, and solar monitoring system. Wireless is the default setup and works OK throughout the house. The signal in the back is spotty and for the foreseeable future my wife will be teaching from home via Zoom so I want to setup the second G1100 in the room.
Router #1 - Step 2.1 completed
Router #2 - Hard reset
Router #2 - Connect ethernet cable to LAN port.
open a browser. Connect to 192.168.1.1. No luck. I tried several other 'default' IP addresses that I found online but again no luck.
Router #2 Ethernet cable attached
command line: ipconfig
Ethernet adapter Ethernet 9:
Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : fios-router.home

Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . :
Wireless LAN adapter Wi-Fi 3:
Media State . . . . . . . . . . . : Media disconnected

The only way I could get default gateway to provide an IP was to connect router #2 to ONT via coax which seems to be the exact opposite of what the articles author is suggesting. I also tried with a second laptop, same result. Am I missing understanding step 2.2 or is there an issue with router #2? Should I see a default gateway IP by just connecting with the ethernet cable? Thanks in advance for the assistance

Asus ZenWiFi AX replace Arris
I just had a new Frontier install with 1gig service. I’d like to replace the Arris with my Asus mesh. I cannot get the Asus to connect to the internet. I plugged it in to the same port the Arris is plugged in to. Unplugged everything and let it reset. Nothing. Am I missing a step?
Thanks in advance as always!

Is this supposed to be plugged in to the ONT?
So I was replacing the router for my 1 gig install and I noticed this was unplugged. If I am correct this is the battery backup to the ONT. Am I right? Do I need to plug this in? I didn’t unplug it when I was replacing the router. It was already unplugged.
Thanks!

[Quantum] Using Frontier G1100 on Verizon - need some Frontier side help
All:
I have searched alot on the Internet, and found a few "success stories", but am confused about a few things.
In short, there seems to be mixed experience on getting Frontier G1100s to work on Verizon FiOS in non-Frontier markets. Seems if you can restore to a VZ firmware backup, you can get up to latest 2.00 firmware.
I bought a used G1100 on ebay. Advertised as "Verizon" but didnt notice until after my low bid that it also had a frontier sticker on it on the last photo posted. It also has the "Verizon myfiosgateway" sticker on it. I only spent $20, not a rip off. So it seems it was originally Verizon, then taken over by Frontier?
When I first connected to it, it had firmware 01.04.00.10-FTR, and 01.03.01.12 (no -FTR) in the backup spot. Here's where I am stuck -- I know there was a deal between Verizon and Frontier, and i THINK Frontier bought Verizon markets from them. I was under the impression that the 1.03.* firmware thus was original Verizon and the -FTR is Frontier. I can swap back and forth with the restore utility between them, but cant get either to "update" when doing either WPS button presses for 10 secs, or pushing in the red reset button in the back for 10 seconds. Also odd - if I connect via "myfiosgateway" the web page logos are Verizon, and on 192.168.1.1, always Frontier.
Both firmware versions "work" as a user supplied router with Verizon, so its not a brick. However I am worried about relatively old firmware with the more recent security updates done on the G1100s (at least, by Verizon).
Questions:
(1) Is the 1.03.01.12 firmware actually old Verizon firmware - or did Frontier just not put -FTR at the end back then? - and should it be upgradeable with Verizon?
(2) I cant find "version histories". How old is 1.04.00.10-FTR? Is it relatively recent? Are the firmware versions basically numerically similar across them - ie are the latest both 2.0x? I know even 1.04-FTR doesnt have the merged SON feature that Verizon has in 2.0X (to merge the 2.4 and 5 GHz bands into a single broadcast SSID).
(3) I only have a Coax connection - any sense of whether it needs to be Ethernet?
(4) Anyone have any more specific suggestions on how to do this?
Thanks for any info.

[DSL] Whats everbody paying for Frontier Dsl?
It's not a poll per say but it would be of use to me and others to compare what speeds and prices Frontier customers are dealing with? Simply Broadband Max $54.99-Save Offer $10 1YR=$48.99 a month. My current speed is 4.4mb down. I just have a dry loop dsl line no extras, I wonder do other customers have any better deals or promos I am unaware of?

NVG589 works with /28 public subnet, "newer" NVG448B does not
I've got the original, ISP supplied NVG589 DSL router configured and working, despite its many annoyances and flaws, buffer bloat and need to hard-reset and recreate the settings every few months...
Frontier tells me I need a newer model, so they shipped me the NVG448B several months ago. I configured it identically to the NVG589, every setting matched precisely what was on the "older" modem, and everything works... except routing to and from the 16 static addresses defined in my public subnet section.
I can unplug the NVG448B, plug in the NVG589 and it works, swap them, and suddenly I can't ping any public IP or DNS name from machines defined with those static addresses (VMs on my ESXi lab machine).
Routes are the same inside those VMs, network hasn't changed at all, with the exception of swapping the NVG589 for the NVG448B and back. I've powered the entire network down, brought it back up, same story.
Hard-reset the modem, recreated all the settings (painfully recreating 50+ firewall rules by hand, since I apparently can't back up the configuration and restore it... what century is this?). Same story.
Networking works, and clients of the router on the LAN side work fine, pings work, I can browse, all of that works, but _nothing_ works from inside machines defined with any of my /28's static addresses.
I called Frontier and submitted a trouble ticket, but they said they can't find anything wrong on their end, and the best they can do is to send a technician out to my home to test things on this end.
Given the pandemic risk and that there's literally nothing they're going to be able to do that I haven't done, I'm skeptical this is a modem issue, and I don't want to have a technician onsite.
I started searching for a replacement, 3rd-party DSL/vdsl router, but there are zero to be found, other than refurbished modems and older models that probably have less features/worse performance.
Has anyone had success with this configuration using either the NVG448B, or a 3rd-party router that allows defining a public subnet _on the router itself_, not setting it into bridged mode and adding another router between it and my network?
The only thing I can think of, is that the routing rules on the Frontier side, assume the public IP of the NVG589 is still in use, and when I plug in the NVG448B, I get a completely different public IP on a completely different subnet (located about 40 miles further away than the NVG589. according to whatismyip), and so no traffic egressing from my VMs behind that /28 is routed anywhere beyond the gateway itself.
What's odd, is I can ping the gateway from those VMs (32.215.x.x -> 192.168.1.254), and I can ping the public WAN IP on the other side of that gateway (32.211.x.x), and that all works fine, but I can't ping 1.1.1.1 for example, or google.com, or even frontier.com or frontiernet.net. Those all fail, 100% ping loss.
Traceroute to frontier.com or frontiernet.net gets to 30 unknown hops, then fails (and why does a successful traceroute from 192.168.1.254 go through msn.net to get to frontiernet.net? Something is definitely off there).
Should I just stick with the NVG589, and work on some ansible/browser automation to reconfigure it every time I have to hard-reset it?
Thoughts? Suggestions?

[Modem] Wifi off in Transparent Bridging mode with NVG443B modem?
I have an Arris NVG443B that I'm trying to put into Bridge mode. Bridge mode works seamlessly—except that I can no longer access the Admin page, which itself wouldn't be much of a problem except that, when I put it into Transparent Bridging mode, **the Wifi turns back on.** I have another router that I want to handle the Wifi; I want this thing to only be a dumb bridge. But it refuses. Any thoughts on how to fix this issue?

[FIOS] Suggestions on what to replace Frontier Aris router with
Just got upgraded to the 1G FIOS today and the WIFI speed is terrible. We are using FIOS for ISP only, so I'd like some suggestions on what to replace the Aris router with. Should I go with a mesh set up or just replace the router with a better one? My house is a little over 2000 SQ Ft with a single room upstairs. The router is currently 8 feet off the floor in the middle of the house on top of an entertainment center. Right now, doing a speed test from my phone I am getting 20Mbps download and 33 Mbps upload.
