[FIOS] Locating a FIOS fiber drop underground

$

Can a FIOS fiber drop be located where it runs through a yard (barely inches below the sod) by normal utility locator services? I'm having a sprinkler system installed and want to be sure I don't cut any services. I'm not sure if a locator requires metal in what's being located. And would I call the 811 people or Frontier?

New fiber-fed DSLAM across from house... Frontier says no service?

Good evening, Frontier installed a new fiber-fed DSLAM in my field, which sits across from our house. I'm not too far off from being able to hit it with a rock from my yard, if I tried. If I do an address check with neighbor addresses as little as a 1/4 mile past the DSLAM, they're eligible for service. However, if I put in my address, it says no service is available. Seems very strange. I called the 800 number, but they weren't able to help, beyond confirming that their system says I can't be serviced. I have relatives about a mile past me who have signed up for the new service with no issues. Is this just an issue in their address database, or something else? I know that on other upgraded DSLAMs in the area, they're provisioning 115 Mbps service for homes as close as mine. Just seems odd. I managed to speak with a local Frontier employee, who said they'd do some checking on things... so I'm hopeful they'll figure something out. Just thought I'd see if anyone else has ever encountered something like this, though? Thanks, RS

Anybody else experiencing slowness in the Tampa area right now? I'm only getting 6-10 Mb/s down right now, and my ping to the Frontier speedtest server is 35ms. It's happening with my router and when I directly connect into the ONT. Rebooting both does nothing.

Frontier Digital Voice

After some back and forth with Frontier they agreed to price match Comcast last Friday. They pushed the 500/500 profile through on Saturday morning and everything worked great, as did the phones. On Monday morning our phone service was dead, no dialtone. I power cycled the ONT, no change. I contacted Frontier and they said to wait until my new self install kit arrived, which arrived today. I hooked it up as the guide says and it just shows you how to manage Frontier digital voice though your online account. I logged in and it just shows me all my old account information. It shows the 50/50 service and the exisiting phone service we had. Nowhere does it show Frontier digital voice options or 500/500 service. Here is what bugs me. Way back when we were with Verizon Fios, when they hooked us up, they cut the copper pots and took the line in the house and connected it directly to the ONT and removed the copper line to the pole. The way this Frontier install guide is written, it talks about having a BBU and how it keeps the phone line active until the power comes back or the battery dies and you lose phone service. So I'm confused here, they talk about Frontier Digital Voice as if it was how our existing phone service was set up. Am I missing something? I didnt see an Ethernet to VOIP phone adapter included in the box, and I tried connecting a phone to the phone jack on the arris router they sent and I didn't get a dial tone there either. None of these guides in the kit mention anything about changing how our house phones are connected for phone service. Did Frontier screw up the phone service when the profile update was pushed out? Why did our phones work all last weeked, no issues. Or did they screw up my account that resulted in the disconnection of our phone service? No one at Frontier seems to know how Frontier Digital Voice works or how it connects to our existing house phones. Any idea what's going on here? Is this a screw up on their end or am I missing sonething?

[FIOS] NVG468MQ Router Opinions?

Looking through posts it looks like some people use the provided router while others do not. Or possibly those that use it need it for other services like TV. I am internet only (500/500 plan, possibly gig in the future) and wasn't planning on using it, but it is actually better specs than mine (netgear r6700v3). It is 4x4 instead of 3x3 mimo and has a faster cpu and more ram. My configuration is really simple, just a few devices set to static DHCP addresses. No complex routing rules, vlan'ing, etc... I will likely want to add some sort of QoS rule though to make sure that my wife doesn't have WiFi calling and Skype issues if I start transferring large files. The netgear has a bug in the latest versions of the firmware though causing slow routing (max out at ~200Mbps), so I am stuck using an old version with security vulnerabilities. My main concern about going with the Frontier provided device is not having control over the device for things like firmware updates and uncertainty that they may reset/reconfigure/access it unbeknownst to me. At some point in the future I may buy a device like a Ubiquiti Edgerouter, but cannot justify it at this time. Thanks

Who do i contact to about the new Nokia box that was installed?

I just saw two techs working on a box (we are in Monroe NY) and I figured I’d ask them about options. Anytime for years i checked frontiers site the best it says we can get is 25Mbps. Well the techs just told me that being just 3 houses from the box they were working on we should easily be able to get 100Mbps. They said they actually even offer tv service now and the box just last year was upgraded to Nokia equipment. They also said our town recently signed an agreement to get fiber to all houses. Anyone know of a number i can use that has this updated info? Where can I find out more info about the fiber contract as well?

10 Gbps Link Speed

Has anyone attempted a 10 Gbps connection with Frontier? I attempted to, but the FOX222 ONT didn't work because XGS-PON ("XPON") was not available in my area yet. My setup: - ONT: FOG421 (GPON, unfortunately) - Router: UDM-Pro (10 Gbps SFP+) - Switch: USW-Pro-24-POE (10 Gbps SFP+) For anyone that has the FOX222 ONT, have you been able to: 1. Establish a 10 Gbps link? 2. Achieve 1080/1080 Mbps speeds? UDM-Pro has a speed test in the device's software, so for anyone who has that and is connected via SFP+ (using a copper module), please give this a try!

[Router] Extending NVG468MQ Wife signal - success?

For context, when I had the Actiontec router, I had a second one in bridge mode so that I had good wifi coverage all over the house. This nice aspect of bridging the Actiontec was that I had one SSID and one password for the whole house, regardless of which router I was connecting to. My new to me G1100 arrived today and I went about placing it in bridge mode. I used the instructions found here: https://www.dslreports.com/faq/15984 At the end, I had a fairly speedy wired connection to my computer but no wifi. My ipad could see the G1100's networks, but that's not what I wanted. I wanted a seamless network throughout my house under the NVG468MQ's SSID. I changed the G1100's SSID to match the NVG468MQ's on both 2.4 and 5 Ghz. I also changed the WPA password to match the NVG468MQ. I rebooted the router and initially, did not see the increase in signal strength. I renewed the IP address lease and thought I saw an increase in signal strength, but I'm really not sure. Lastly, I checked the IP address of the router that my Ipad was connecting to and it lists the NVG468MQ, not the G1100, even though I'm in the same room as the G100. In the end, I'm not sure if I accomplished what I wanted to or not. Any thoughts? CheapDad P.S. The only downside I seem to have is that my globe on the G1100 is solid red, but I'm not sure that means anything when in bridge mode.

[FIOS] Frontier FiOS Running Better in Dallas? Any recent network upgrades?

I have noticed spotty service on Frontier FiOS 150 / 150 mbps service in the Grapevine, Texas area over the last few months. (Intermittent link down, issues with high latency, and well as speed test results on a wired connection well below the 150 mbps up & down.) However, within the last week, it is almost as if a switch has been flipped where the link is stable, with low latency and speeds consistently testing near the stated service speeds. Don't get me wrong - this is a totally welcome change, but just trying to get a handle on whether these improvements have happened on the ISP side or if there was somehow a LAN problem that has fixed itself. Does anyone know if Frontier has made some recent fiber optic network equipment upgrades or other changes in network architecture that would have improved FiOS service in the Dallas (Grapevine, TX) service area?

Required install for Gig service with Arris/Moto ONT 1000G T4.

Got my new Ubiquiti Dream Machine Pro and called Frontier to move to the next tier ($10 increase to $90, instead of $35 to $115), and was told I needed a new install. I am already on the Gig-E port, that is provisioned for 1G (flashing LED). Is there a reason that they need to do an install? My understanding was they were not yet installing XG/XGS PON boxes in my neighborhood, so I was not sure why they needed a tech visit. Any insight?

Bypassing BBU to power ONT directly? (SFH ONT 612)

$

I have an old Verizon FiOS-branded SFH ONT 612 with a BBU at my home, but I have service through Frontier. The BBU has stopped working, which has caused my internet to go out. I don't have voice so I know I don't need a BBU, but it looks like the power supply sends 48V to the BBU, which then sends 12V to the ONT. Frontier has said that they won't be able to send a tech out for a couple of days and won't even confirm the date they've given me. Is it possible to bypass the BBU entirely and power the ONT directly? I don't have pictures, but my setup looks exactly the same as the pictures from this thread (can't reply because it's archived): »Powering ONT without BBU?

[FIOS] Frontier FIOS Gig Service Details - Sarasota, FL

Asked my son to keep an eye out for actual gigabit fiber and today he gave me a card from Frontier for just that AND at $75 a month (for 12 months). I've been searching here and on their website, but I can't find answers to my questions. 1. Is it true fiber to the house? I don't want fiber to the box down the street or fiber to the pole, I want fiber to the modem IN my house. 2. What's the installation fee? I've heard everything from $0 to $75 to $500. 3. What's the up/down speed? I've seen tantalizing SpeedTest images showing 2ms latencies (YUM!) 4. Caps? 5. Modem? 6. Reliability? (I realize "customer-no-service" sucks, so does everybody's) I realize the router comes with it for at least the first 12 months, no biggie, I won't be using it. Took me a long time, but I finally found one that "just works" with the roughly half dozen corporate VPNs I have to traverse daily. Thanks! And yes, I do need gigabit internet. I've worked from home for almost 15 years and my job relies on a steady, dependable, and fast connection, which has been Xfinity Gigabit from the moment they offered it. With COVID, we were blowing past the Xfinity 1Tb cap so I "upgraded" to the unlimited deal for $30 more.

replacing Frontier router with my own

I am getting old... can't find info on the net like I used to be able to do... With regards to: https://www.dslreports.com/faq/16077 there is an 'option 9' part: X9. Primary with MoCA LAN BridgeIn options 6 and 7 above, a NIM-100 or other MOCA bridge can be used instead of the Verizon Router to provide the MOCA LAN bridge needed by the STBs. A NIM-100 supports MOCA LAN only. It can not be used between a router and the ONT. A list of available MOCA Bridges can be found here: »Verizon FiOS FAQ »What is a MOCA Bridge?PRO: Can eliminate Verizon Router completely. Smaller, simpler device. Less power consumption.CON: Additional unit to purchase. Does not support remote access to DVR, on-screen caller id or VZ's CPE management interface (see note #3 above). ... this is what I want to do... but I can't find any detailed instructions to do this. I have done other options in the past... ( I am using the Frontier default setup now ) but there were some complcated instructions. I can't find any thing for option 9. Do I just release the DHCP address from the current FIOS Router. Connect my new router to the cat5 from the ONT and pull a new IP Address. Connect a Moca Adapter (MEB1100 MOCA device) from my router to the coax that goes to my Quantum STB and call it a day? Seems like it might be more complicated than that. - jack

Frontier Business setup

All just more of an FYI as i am working in a building being renovated and came across this business setup. I assume this is a typical? looks like its fiber but only has 1GB connections out of the Ceina router. If I plugged into the 4 ethernet ports on the left I could do a speed test if the service is still active?
