[FIOS] Unusually high ping times?

$

Pretty much since last night, I have noticed that ping times to a lot of services are extremely high. I first noticed it when I was gaming last night and my ping time was around 50ms, when it’s usually around 15ms. After that, I did a Speedtest and saw my ping spiked to 156ms. Then I saw the Frontier line monitors here on DSLReports and saw that it’s happening pretty much in all CTF areas. Anybody else experiencing this too, or have any idea why it’s happening in all CTF areas?

[FIOS] MoCA 2 Adapter: To Bond or not..

I recently upgraded from the old Verizon 75/75 plan to the Frontier 150/150. With this came a new Arris ONT and NVG468MQ router. With the older Actiontec configuration I acquired a single Actiontec/Verizon MoCA 1.0 network adapter in my upstairs office, which provided me 100mbs within my home network. After the swap the unit still works, but I see no performance increase, as it's now my bottleneck (it is only MoCA 1.0 compliant). Since the NVG468MQ specs boast MoCA 2.0 compatibility, I'm looking for suggestions on a MoCA 2.0 Network Adapter to work with the new Arris router. Any suggestions? Should I purchase a "Bonded" adapter? Thanks

Well add me to the list of customers lied to , and just pissed on by Frontier. they have been a JOKe since they took over , but now it's like F you customer, we are charging and we don't care what we promised when you upgraded from Verizon to us. just cancelled the HBO , might as well give the 19.99 to HBO directly . so many things that they have done wrong in the last year , won't bore you guys with it.

Fronttier Vantage in NY

I live in Monroe, NY, and was hoping by now they would offer more competitive speeds against Optimum who is my current provider. I remember around a year ago there was word of vantage coming to the area. Right now according to Frontier I can get up to 24Mbps down, but vantage was supposed to increase those speeds. Anyone on the inside know what is going on? Is Monroe, NY getting upgrades anytime soon?

Waterbury ,CT There is a wire with a orange sleeve and one with a white sleeve hanging off the top. Is this a light or some telco equipment? On the other side it looks like there is a skeleton for a power meter.

Using config option #3 with legacy FIOS router, should I change?

I am still using my legacy Verizon ActionTec router (I think rev E, would need to check) and have my personal routers configured on network via option #3 (https://www.dslreports.com/faq/16077). Given the lack of firmware patches to this router - what would people recommend? Switch to option #1 (running Triple Play)? Buy a new router (grandfathered in and not paying monthly payments on the router)? Or some other strategy (assuming I don't give up on Frontier and go to Spectrum (I can't believe I am actually considering them, but that's where we are with Frontier).

Hi ALL, I have been with FiOS ever since it was available in my area. The first few years under Vz were a little shaky as their customer service was not geared up for cable TV and Internet, but it slowly improved. The transition to Fr was bad in certain areas but for me actually not too bad. Last Oct/Nov I was coming out of a 2 year Vz bundle and made MANY calls to Fr to get new pricing. Each call gave me a different price and ultimately didn't stabilize until 4 or 5 months ago with a call to the "Office of Pres" call center. My final price was about $195 which included a $50 "Loyal Customer" discount which is expiring next month. My services were for 50/50 (later upgraded for free to 75/75), Ultimate TV, Starz add-on, 1 Quantum 6 tuner DVR and Digital voice. So I didn't bother calling regular customer support and called the agent from the Off of Pres and the bottom line is that when the $50 discount goes away there is NO OTHER DISCOUNT available! So my bill will go up $50 to $245 per month. The agent can do NOTHING! Called Spectrum and I am getting almost the same service for $156 per month. YES, that is a new customer discount and good for the first year but I have to believe that when the year is up they will be able to give me some kind of discount. If not I may have to return to Fr. But isn't it stupid for Fr to offer good discounts for new customers only to lose existing customers. The Spectrum agent told me she was VERY busy with people transferring from Fr. The only down side is the DVR from Spectrum is only a 2 tuner model vs. the 6 tuner I had from Fr. But the 4 extra tuners are NOT worth almost $100 per month extra! So we shall see what we shall see!!! I'll still monitor this forum to see what's happening with Fr. Gerry

Port Forwarding on new NVG468MQ

Hey all, I have an odd one. My son is complaining that some of his games no longer work since I upgraded my contract, which required a new Arris ONT and NVG468MQ router. After verifying that anti-virus software updates weren't the problem, I found specific ports need to be open from their support forum posts. To my surprise, my "Firewall - Port Forwarding" page has three entries (for 3 of the 6 STB's: UDP's 35003, 4, and 5 (which I cannot delete)) and just above that table it states "You have reached the maximum number of rules". Are three rules the limit or are we not allowed to create Port Forwarding entries? Is this a known limitation when the Firewall Level setting is "LOW"? Am I missing something? Thanks

[DSL] Help in troubleshooting line drops at the same times every day

$

Good evening all, I am attempting to troubleshoot my internet service and have reached a point of frustration that I need outside eyes in looking into this. Back in July 2017 I went from my existing single pair dual DSL lines (2 lines, each at 8Mbit/sec), to two bonded 24Mbit/sec lines (2 pair per modem at 13919 per line, for a total of 4 lines and 2 modems). From the day of upgrade onward, 1 of the 4 lines drops each evening right around sunset for about an hour or 2 every few minutes, and then again the same around sunrise. It was dropping around 8:15pm EST when all this started, and has backed up about 5 minutes per night since then to around 6:40pm-ish EST now. I have opened quite a few (4-5) support tickets and they saw the line dropping during their testing, and dispatched a tech the next week. He would try a few things and then let it sit a week. Rinse and repeat since July and its now almost November. The same tech has come out now for the last 4 visits (same tech that did the bonded install) and he has done many things to troubleshoot it. The problem now is since he has done the below troubleshooting steps, now THREE of my 4 lines are doing the dropping at sunset/sunrise. Was told by the tech the last time that if it was still having issues he would have to forward me to another tech as he did not know how to fix this. Troubleshooting steps - Swapped lines in house to make sure the dropping followed the line and not the modem, confirmed it is not the modems by testing a 3rd spare and it did the same - Ensured we are using the appropriate PPPoE logons by generating new passwords for both line sets - Replaced the ENTIRE NID on the side of the house with a new 6 line capable NID and rewired all connections in - Ran a home run cable from the NID to my office with all 4 pair on the same run, and split into the appropriate lines going into each modem with a twisted pair phone cord right into the backs of the modems - Ran a home run cable from the pole across my yard to the NID to rule out the underground cable, which has since been switched back to the underground cable when that didn't work - Replaced all wiring coming from the top of the pole junction down to the underground cross connect - Changed out all 4 pairs to a new 25 pair and all appropriate cross connects - Did a side by side comparison of all 4 lines programming and confirmed there were no differences - Replaced the card at the terminal (?) that the faulty line was on Here is a sample of the log from when it goes down. I refresh the xDSL stats page and can watch the SN Margin creep down, then plummet to -7.1dB. At the same time, the Super Frame Errors and HEC Errors skyrocket, then the line drops and resyncs, rinse and repeat. Does this sound like a faulty streetlight somewhere that is throwing some massive interference when it kicks on or something? I have attached screenshots of my DSL stats pages from my modems so you can see the general look of them. Screenshot 1 is modem 1 Screenshot 1-1 is modem 1 about 30 sec after screenshot 1. Shows the drop in signal and massive burst of Super Frame Errors and HEC Errors and the SN Margin drop. Screenshot 2 is from modem 2 Log Sample: 2017-10-17T20:57:12-04:00 L3 sdb[1037]: DSL: line-1: Mode ADSL2+ (PTM) 2017-10-17T20:57:12-04:00 L3 sdb[1037]: DSL: line-1: Sync Rate in kbps D/S 13783 U/S 606 2017-10-17T20:57:12-04:00 L3 sdb[1037]: DSL: line-1: Latency path Fast 2017-10-17T20:57:12-04:00 L3 sdb[1037]: DSL: line-1: Trellis D/S:ON U/S:ON 2017-10-17T20:57:12-04:00 L3 sdb[1037]: DSL: line-1: CO Vendor b5004946544ed086 2017-10-17T20:57:12-04:00 L3 sdb[1037]: DSL: line-1: Link showtime counter since boot 111 2017-10-17T20:57:12-04:00 L3 sdb[1037]: DSL: line-1: Retrain Reason RDI 2017-10-17T20:57:43-04:00 L3 sdb[1037]: DSL: line-1: Link drop counter 111 2017-10-17T20:58:04-04:00 L3 sdb[1037]: DSL: line-2: Link drop counter 13 2017-10-17T20:58:08-04:00 L3 sdb[1037]: DSL: line-1: Mode ADSL2+ (PTM) 2017-10-17T20:58:08-04:00 L3 sdb[1037]: DSL: line-1: Sync Rate in kbps D/S 13919 U/S 606 2017-10-17T20:58:08-04:00 L3 sdb[1037]: DSL: line-1: Latency path Fast 2017-10-17T20:58:08-04:00 L3 sdb[1037]: DSL: line-1: Trellis D/S:ON U/S:ON 2017-10-17T20:58:08-04:00 L3 sdb[1037]: DSL: line-1: CO Vendor b5004946544ed086 2017-10-17T20:58:08-04:00 L3 sdb[1037]: DSL: line-1: Link showtime counter since boot 112 2017-10-17T20:58:08-04:00 L3 sdb[1037]: DSL: line-1: Retrain Reason RDI 2017-10-17T20:58:55-04:00 L3 sdb[1037]: DSL: line-2: Mode ADSL2+ (PTM) 2017-10-17T20:58:55-04:00 L3 sdb[1037]: DSL: line-2: Sync Rate in kbps D/S 0 U/S 606 2017-10-17T20:58:55-04:00 L3 sdb[1037]: DSL: line-2: Latency path Fast 2017-10-17T20:58:55-04:00 L3 sdb[1037]: DSL: line-2: Trellis D/S:ON U/S:ON 2017-10-17T20:58:55-04:00 L3 sdb[1037]: DSL: line-2: CO Vendor b5004946544ed086 2017-10-17T20:58:55-04:00 L3 sdb[1037]: DSL: line-2: Link showtime counter since boot 14 2017-10-17T20:58:55-04:00 L3 sdb[1037]: DSL: line-2: Retrain Reason RDI 2017-10-17T20:58:57-04:00 L3 dnsmasq[2971]: no responses from nameserver '8.8.4.4' 2017-10-17T20:59:09-04:00 L3 dnsmasq[2971]: no responses from nameserver '8.8.8.8' 2017-10-17T21:03:16-04:00 L5 pppd[18666]: Serial link appears to be disconnected. 2017-10-17T21:03:22-04:00 L5 pppd[18666]: Connection terminated. 2017-10-17T21:03:22-04:00 L5 pppd[18666]: Modem hangup 2017-10-17T21:03:22-04:00 L4 mcp[18741]: mcp: processing STOP signal 2017-10-17T21:03:42-04:00 L5 pppd[24856]: pppd 2.4.6 started by root, uid 0 2017-10-17T21:03:45-04:00 L4 pppd[24856]: Connected to f4:b5:2f:a1:48:52 via interface br2 2017-10-17T21:03:45-04:00 L5 pppd[24856]: Connect: ppp2 br2 2017-10-17T21:03:46-04:00 L5 pppd[24856]: PAP authentication succeeded 2017-10-17T21:03:46-04:00 L5 pppd[24856]: peer from calling number F4:B5:2F:A1:48:52 authorized 2017-10-17T21:03:46-04:00 L5 pppd[24856]: local IP address 172.78.170.235 2017-10-17T21:03:46-04:00 L5 pppd[24856]: remote IP address 74.42.148.172 2017-10-17T21:03:46-04:00 L5 pppd[24856]: primary DNS address 74.40.74.40 2017-10-17T21:03:46-04:00 L5 pppd[24856]: secondary DNS address 74.40.74.41 2017-10-17T21:03:46-04:00 L5 cwmp[2653]: DSLF_WanMgmtChg path[conn[2].ipaddr] val[172.78.170.235] 2017-10-17T21:03:46-04:00 L5 sdb[1037]: route[1]: forcing onlink route for nexthop (74.42.148.172) 2017-10-17T21:03:46-04:00 L3 cwmp[2653]: DSLF_WANIPChgProc 2 2017-10-17T21:03:47-04:00 L5 mcp[24925]: mcp: kernel's mcfwd_upstream_if is 31 (ppp2) 2017-10-17T21:03:47-04:00 L4 cwmp[2653]: Resolving ACS URL - What are you paying for FiOS internet only?

I've been seeing lower prices for internet on Frontier's website so I'm just curious what you are currently paying for internet only? I'm on 100/100 in Southern California and paying $64.99. I know I had some sort of discount applied to my bill in the past but it also seems like they may have lowered prices since then? I thought I saw somewhere 150/150 for $50/mo (https://go.frontier.com/fios/internet)? Is anyone else getting this as a "non-new customer"?

[FIOS] Use my own router with coax-ethernet adapter (ECB2500C)?

$

hi all, I've been a long time user of FIOS internet, TV and phone, from the old Verizon days to now Frontier. My place was already installed with the FIOS ONT and 2 coax wires by Verizon when I bought the house, no ethernet cable was wired. Currently my set up is: Coax -- HD Set top box -- TV Coax -- MI424WR Rev.I (provide wifi to 10+ devices) -- my PC a few more new devices were recently added to the far side from the house, and getting very slow internet over wifi. When I moved the devices closer to the MI424WR router, the speed increased significantly (by almost 3 times). So I decided use my own router and I'd like to get rid of the MI424WR. Through some research, I was planning to go with option #5, the double bridge to keep the full functionality for my dvr. However, I came across the MOCA adapter (ECB2500C) today, and wanted to check if anyone has successfully set it up while keeping the dvr fully functional. Ideally I'd like to have the following setup: Coax -- HD Set top box -- TV (keep it as is) Coax -- ECB2500C -- my own router to provide wired and wifi internet As this post mentioned, it is just a plug-and-play: https://www.snbforums.com/threads/actiontec-ecb2500-and-verizon-fios.16436/ Could anyone confirm if it works or not? Or is there any additional configuration is needed? Thank you for the inputs!

Minimum time to become a "new" customer?

$

Hi ALL, How long after leaving Fr does it take to become a new customer again? I started another thread titled "Bye Bye Frontier" and I was looking forward to changing over to Spectrum. In a nutshell, while the physical installation of the S equipment went well, I ended up having some major problems that necessitated 3 separate calls to Tech Support. I literally wasted ALL DAY between the install and the Tech Support calls. So now while the Internet and phone service is OK, the DVR is one of the worst DVR's I have ever used! First off there is no Skip Forward 30 seconds even though there is a skip back of about 10 seconds. It turns out that most (or all) Spectrum DVRs do NOT have Skip Forward. Plus overall its just a very awkward interface. So I may only be able to put up wit it for a couple of months and I may seriously consider jumping back to Fr!!! Gerry

[DSL] Actiontec f2250 SLOW boot after firmware update

Which I was forced to do. What used to take about a minute or so to get blue online light from power-on now takes around 7 minutes or so. New firmware is F2250-36.128L.09. Prior to updating I looked for an option to save current firmware, nope not there. Support, of course was ZERO help. So if anyone has any ideas why it now takes so long to get to online mode and if there is a fix, please let me know. Thank you Joe Sica
