[Internet] Frontier forcing customer to use new modem or lose service..

I had a package delivered to my home today from frontier. I did not order or request this package. In it is a new Arris443B router and a letter that states "To avoid disruption of your internet service install upon receipt......your internet service Will Not Work until the new router is installed". The modem I have now works beautifully. To me, this is outrageous! I know they charge a fee for using their equipment and their equipment is problematic at best. This feels like extortion. Is there anything I can do? Should I just drop frontier? Can I complain? The special bit is that at the.top of the letter they claim the router comes with no additional charge....these people have no shame. I'm a Texas customer.

I got hit with the infamous "Oh yea, looks like the account was never fully setup" bug. How do I know about that? Two separate $100 charges for onsite technician visits. Where the (very nice BTW, I feel for him) onsite technician visit consisted of the technician standing at the door saying "Wow, you have a lot of stuff in there. They don't train us on those new modems. You need to hire someone to help you configure all that stuff." Took several FCC complaints, two months and two Frontier accounts to finally get the issue escalated to someone in the senior networking team who finally took the time to troubleshoot and realized that the account had not been properly configured in their "management system" - whatever that is, and not properly provisioned in the DSLAM if I heard the networking guy properly. I was so amazed to see traffic coming down the pipe after a couple of months I was just ... The bit about "two different accounts" -- I do have two separate business accounts, but this issue played out across two accounts at the same location because the first one was closed by Frontier. Frontier still uses the copper line phone number as part of the account number for DSL - but if you don't subscribe to voice services, they dump the number back in the "available" or "free" pool of numbers. Guess why I had multiple accounts at this site? One of my accounts had been turned off for a week and I had an "on site technician" scheduled. He came out and disconnected the ONT rather than repair anything -- I called to ask what the heck and was told the account was closed. I have one static /29 account. 5 usable static IPs. Put my subnet with CIDR into any subnetting calculator and you get the gateway on the first usable address. Frontier uses the last usable address as gateway. However, when setting up the account, they don't give you the gateway, the just give you the network/CIDR. They are still blocking inbound ports - like port 80/443 and 853 for encrypted DNS. I moved from a FIOS account out to the sticks to this dual DSL account and I regret it every single day ....

Is this legitimate? Or another Frontier shenanigan? They said it's part of their current terms and condition (broadband disconnection fee). I escalated to supervisor, and she said she'd remove it since I'm a long time customer..i.e. good 'ol Verizon days.

I have ONT (Ethernet) 200/200 Frontier Fios. I recently picked up the ORBI rbk50 router and satellite kit and for the most part it has been successful - blazing speeds and great coverage. However - I've had issues with random dropouts since it's been online with the ethernet cable plugged directly into the WAN port. I just brought the Arris router back online in the hopes this will improve matters and I currently have it in Transparent Bridge mode. Everything seems ok but I each time go through my config - I reset to factory, disable wifi and then enable the transparent bridge it then automatically re-enables both the 2.4 and 5ghz wifi. I can re-connect via wireless to the wifi but cannot for the life of me figure out how to connect back into the Bridged Arris - any help would be appreciated.

Setting up your own Router with NVG468MQ

I've been working on this for a few weeks. I have FIOS triple play, and I have to keep the NVG468MQ active. Been playing around with the settings, and finally got this working perfectly. So my setup is like this NVG468MQ -> FIOS Boxes -> Asus Router First thing you have to do is disable WIFI. [att=1] Then you need to setup the Firewall DMZ, Frontier gives WAN IP's via DHCP so we need to share that IP with the Asus Router. You want to check Enable DMZ. Select passthrumode as DHCPS-Fixed. Then to ensure the Asus Router gets the IP, select manual entry and put the MAC Address of the Asus Router's WAN Interface. [att=2] Restart the NVG468MQ. Now if you did everything right your WAN IP will be shared with your Asus Router. [att=3] [att=4]

I decided to test my modem at the NID to see why my internet disconnects 20+ times a week. Prior to testing my modem had very low SNR and high Attenuation / CRC Errors. After testing the modem and my phone at the NID my broadband 2 light is now flashing red. I still have internet connection. Anyone might know what may have caused this? I did it previously without issue. Could the data cable going into the modem cause the broadband 2 to flash red and still allow internet access? Is broadband 2 the bottom tab? I've confirmed the tabs are shut and have reset my modem.

The connection is installed, but I do need a bit of help. I currently use Eero's as my router and mesh. I'd like to put the modem in bridge mode if possible. Does anyone know if I can? Once I can get it all setup correctly I can post some screen shots.

Working away, this morning about 10 AM Eastern, 10/19/20 and boom wifi gone. NVG443B wifi indicator off. ANYBODY else have this happen recently???? I connect with Ethernet cable and find normal router configuration EXCEPT, 2.4 and 5 Gig wifi are set to disabled. I live in a very rural area, no other wifi in range, so I presume these changes came from the internet. The router is password protected, but my impression is Frontier has a backdoor these days. Using Ethernet I reset these two wifi settings to enabled and the network is fine. I found nothing else changed on the router and I do have a somewhat unusual config, so if there was a major update I would have noticed. Thanks!

I am trying to setup my Moms Vantage voicemail. I tried everything that I thought was the pin code and it locked up and disabled voicemail. I read the vantage setup guide and it said that the pin would have been supplied when it was setup, it was not given to me. I will try the chat option and see if they can fix it without calling. They helped link the account so I can access it online and I got the app to update the wifi network and passcode. I like the fact the phone is digital using the DSL line vs an analog pots line.

Hi: Currently have Triple Play (Ultimate TV, 100/100, phone) and all the discounts are gone. I have been working with a very helpful Frontier Rep in Presidents Office and can't keep the cost down. SO: After much research - decided to move to DISH Network for TV, Frontier for 500/500 internet, and OOMA for phone. Tried YouTube TV which has wonderful picture but only Stereo sound and DVR that records everything but is not able to delete shows watched from series and can't select record only new shows making it difficult to manage what is new programs recorded. I want a DVR that I can manage shows. Dish Network is $80/month (fixed for 24 months) with 4 boxes including Hopper 3 DVR. Frontier Internet (500/500) is $39.99/mo plus $10/mo router. OOMA phone service is $5.00/mo for tax only. QUESTION IS: What specific steps should I take to make sure my Frontier account is not canceled due to porting phone? What specific order should I make changes for each service? Any feelings on my selections? Thanks!

[DSL] Chatted with a rep and my Mom can only get 3mbps DSL

The first bill showed up for my Moms DSL/Phone bundle in Essex, CT. 3Meg was the fastest speed available. That seems crazy slow to me. You can't even do basic streaming with that speed. Chat rep put in an engineering ticket to see if it could be brought up to a higher speed. I was hoping for the 25 meg speed. Hoping they can fix the speed issue.

Does any one in the following ZIP have issues ? 76244 and 76248 ? It appears that a hand full of customers (FIOS) are in a weird status: getting some download, but no upload, or barely 0.01 Mbps. 3 days since this issue, and it appears that is a configuration problem on Frontier end. Called the tech support and I was asked if I have Spectrum in my area (!!)...when I replied yes, I was told by the guy that it may be faster to switch to them, rather than wait for the issue to be fixed ( given the relative small number of customers impacted by this issue ). Is there any way I can escalate this matter ? or ... is it pointless ? Thanks....

Someone on next door posted: Those of you who subscribe to Frontier for your TV, etc., you may or may not know that effective Nov 30th, they are increasing the current cost of $5.00 for HBO and Showtime to $14.99 each. They sent an email but some people delete these and may not have read them. ... I logged onto the site... didn't see anything about that. Anyone know if this is really true? - jack

Arris 443B transparent bridging

I recently had to replace the Arris 443B. I use it in transparent bridging. I have all rules on my router set correctly as prior to the new Arris I was able to access the Arris via a psuedo port without any issues. Now I receive the following (see attachment). The only change is that the Arris has the latest firmware. Anyone ran into this and resolved the issue?

[Email] Frontier web mail window hijacks Yahoo browser tab?

Using Chrome or Firefox web browsers. I open a yahoo web mail tab and logon to my Frontier e-mail account to view mail. If I open a second browser tab to view mail from my yahoo e-mail address (totally different from frontier account name) the open frontier tab hijacks the yahoo account tab and I end up with two browser tabs with the same Frontier account web mail and page layout. Cookie problem? I've tried this on two different computers in two different residential locations.
