Well, it seems to be over, for now (here) anyways. Does anybody know any more about that CT outtage? It seemed like there might have been similar issues in CA as well. .01 Mbps all night, around evening, until sometime today.

[FIOS] Strange and annoying issue

$

I have had a minor but annoying issue since my service has been installed, it deals primarily when initiating a download or connection it seems, as an example, when I click a link to view a video from my Ring doorbell it will more often than not be so slow the play back has to stop while the download catches up, if i stop and restart the video, 1 maybe 2 times it will download and play at the expected speed, same thing when connecting to Ring for a live feed as well, sometimes it will just say connecting but it wont connect unless I try it a few times, it does not behave this way out side of my home. I can observe the same behavior when doing multiple app updates on on my Apple products, some will start the update at dial up speed others will be at full speed, if i stop and restart the slow ones the update will download at full speed, the problem persists using an Edge Router X and the Frontier supplied one so I have eliminated that as possibility, with all that being said, Speed tests show pretty good, Web Browsing, NetFlix and other media steaming services seem to work fine, the only clue I have is the Frontier router records some transmit drops when I speed test. Anyone ever run into something like this before? this is mostly a annoyance so that's why I haven't engaged support yet as haven't felt like dealing it. How are things going over in the Frontier Direct forum? are they responding to issues?

[FIOS] Installation help

Hi everyone. I'm a new Frontier/Fios customer. A tech installed the ONT and router on 5/26. He mentioned that he wasn't getting a signal at the ONT and after a lot of troubleshooting, he determined that the contractors who ran the fiber line from the node to my house did not use the correct node. He said that he would get them to come back out and re-do the connection (by digging up the old line and running an entirely new line) but that it would be a good idea for me to contact Frontier as well. I contacted Frontier and they mentioned that it would be fixed on 5/27. It was not fixed that day, so I contacted Frontier again and they said it would be fixed on 6/4. Well, it wasn't fixed today either. I contacted Frontier again and they have no record of any prior communications and no clue why my account is still in a "pending" state. I explained the issue again and they would like to set up another appointment with a tech, which I think is a huge waste of time because he'll come out and see that the fiber line isn't hooked up correctly and then I'll go through the same process again. Is there a number that I can call that is better for this type of issue? I'll admit it's very frustrating to get bounced around from Frontier rep to Frontier rep and no one can give me a straight answer. I just need some way to get the fiber contractor to come back to the house. Thanks in advance for any help.

[FIOS] Control Volume

Greetings, In putzing with my FIOS remote something changed and now I cannot adjust volume via the TV only via the STB. How do I get it back? I have a legacy Sharp Aquos that still works nicely for me. I can still adjust volume via TV using the Sharp remote but I used to be able to do the same with the FIOS remote. I have tried re-programing using code 342 to no avail. Even talked to FIOS tech support. No Joy! All other remote functions operate AOK. The STB volume control will only go to a max preset volume. The TV control gives me added volume that we need as we do not have young ears. Any ideas would be appreciated. kentek .

[FIOS] NVG468MQ Firmware 9.3.0h3d36

Received the new firmware 4 days ago. Broke port forwards for a second router set in the DMZ. It looks like it also does not update DynDNS. My son has multiple folding computers on a secondary router on a different subnet. When the Arris router rebooted with the new firmware it broke some port forward rules on the secondary router. He is trying to fix it. Will let everybody know if he found a solution. EDIT: Had to do a Factory Reset of the router. All is working again.

Advice on a good router

Hi There. Just had the 500/500 installed. The wifi range on the arris router really drops off for downloading and uploading after 20 feet or so. Can someone recommend a good wifi router or if a mesh network is better then that's fine that will give me the speed over wifi to copy files and download quicker as well (similar to ethernet). Thank you for any advice.

[DSL] Any recourse when too far from DSLAM?

$

This is probably a stupid question, but I'm curious. Apparently Frontier has ruled I am too far from their DSLAM to receive DSL service. Shouldn't it be possible to extend the range by amplification? It seems like this should be an option, rather than cut-and-dry either you're in the range or you're not. Does anyone know if this is something that is ever done with Frontier or any other company? I believe their range is 2 miles, and we're outside of it.

Unserviceable? (AZ)

Somewhat long post, so I'll try to make it readable. My mother and I went in on a little trailer/cabin in Northern AZ, specifically Heber/Overgaard (we're in Overgaard) and most of the past 1.5 years we've had it we went up to get away, clean it up, projects, etc. Having internet wasn't a big deal, cell phones go in and out even. Yet, with time marching on and my mom bought it as retirement, she has more time. I have to still work as I'm a man raising a family, yet I can work from home as long as I have internet. Mom agreed, so I checked out online with the options of Frontier or satellite. Satellite isn't an option, as at home in the city, my CL DSL is a solid 80mbps/10mbps with a 25 second ping. My work VPN is so crappy I even have trouble with it keeping up and there are noticeable delays (this is also because my company thinks servers should be placed only in the state HQ is in... sigh). So even if it's a slow DSL, compared to faster satellite, ping is my # 1 need. I went online and saw a 6mbps or 18mbps package and I figured, start with the low one, if it's good maybe pay more and bump up to 18 if the line stats seemed good. Online wanted a 12 month agreement, I didn't, and it was having trouble finding my address because the 2 towns are next to each other but don't share a zip code. I got a sales specialist lady, she did digging behind the scenes, fixed it to show my correct zip to the address. Great, I was at work, couldn't directly consult with my mom to get the go ahead and if she was comfortable with price/install and all that. I did explain to the lady we'd have to have a tech come because someone just cut the phone line, she gave me a price for that too if needed. She gave me a call back number and a sales # so she could make her commission and set it up month to month. This was end of February. Covid19 hit, I work in a large healthcare company, we were rushing, in a tizzy, getting sent home, etc. So, we finally get settled, get time to go back up to the cabin and we have fun, I want to look at internet again there. Especially since we're all at home now, I could go up and work from there as many days as I want/need. I thought I'd lost the lady's number and sales #, so I just went online to start again. It had can't serve, I thought it was the zip code issue. So I called in, guy tells me they don't offer service there at all. Asks if anyone around even has Frontier (they do). Says maybe the DSLAM is full, yet just said no service is in the whole two towns. Tells me to get satellite, say it's not going to work, he says go on this website and see who serves this are (it's Frontier!) I was frustrated, tried loads of addresses in my town, jumping the major roads and the highway. None are offering it. I call back in, guy gives a similar story, understands at least I need lower ping, says I'm boned basically. I'm frustrated, I dig through all my notes I dumped in my car leaving the office and I find the sales lady information! I call her, she's wonderful. She says they put a block on the whole town, probably because traffic increased, more connections, everyone at home, etc. She'll call engineering, get them to open it, get a ticket in, and yay. That was a Wednesday, she says they leave it open 24-48 hours, she's off Thursday, so Friday we'll talk in the morning. Great! Thursday at work on a call, I was bored and go check. Punch in my address and it shows the couple plans! I was like, woo, I'll call her tomorrow and on my way! I call her Friday, she looks, says it's closed again. Nothing she can do. I told her it was open... she says nope. They opened it, and decided it should be closed. I'm like what do I do? She says call every month and see if someone disconnected, maybe that'll work. She's basically blowing me off now she can't get her sale and lesson learned to me on trying to even be reasonable with sales people making money. I'm not calling in, that's absurd. She did say we can do POTS! I laughed and was done. Last step, I try to get a hold of the physical local office up there. First call, it rings and connects me to a local office about 350 miles away in the state (how a communications company is this poor at communications is telling). I finally get the lady from the local office on the phone. She knows what I'm talking about. Says they shut off anything new in the city and have to fix it. I explained they even had it available for 24 hours and she knows but it went bad again so they shut it down. I told her, I'm at a loss - this is absurd. They've fit every trope about a phone company they can, even worse than the ones I use. She promises me they are actually working to fix local DSLAMS and other things causing the issues. I said to her - be honest, it's not like a lying changes anything at this point, will this get solved? She said in about 5 business days she'd know and was very confident it would get fixed. So that's where I'm at. I should have ordered when the 1 day it offered, even with a contract I could swallow that now. Has anyone seen this, where they just won't service two entire towns? The two towns are about 3000 people, a lot more if you count those like us who come and go. It's not serviced by a DSLAM or two having troubles and EVERY address I try has the same can't serve prompt if I go online. I know the company is in chapter 11, I know it's a phone company with a solid monopoly in this area, but even still? Anyway, what are the real chances they allow service installs to resume? Should I take this as a sign to use my cabin more unplugged, just take the burner prepaid phone to get service up there and call it a day? Thanks all for my rambling.

[Internet] Tampa, FL: Frontier fiber + Charter Spectrum HFC?

Hey everyone, I am moving into a new residence that offers Frontier Communications, Charter Spectrum, and Earthlink. I believe Earthlink just resells the hybrid fiber coax network connection provided by Charter Spectrum. What I am looking to accomplish is have Frontier and Spectrum installed at the same residence as I need separate networks and high availability. Frontier Communications will not use any coax/fiber plant related to Spectrums install, will they? I just wanted to understand if they would both try and use the same NID on the house which may only allow me to have 1 provider. Thanks!

MEB1100 question / issue

I have a neighbor with an Internet issue to the guest house. I went over to see if I could figure out what was going on and I could not. I have ZERO experience with a MOCA device. They have a MEB1100 connected to the wall via coax. The coax is supposed to go from their guest house to the main house. This connection as worked as-is for 5+ years. A few weeks ago, it stopped working. They had a Frontier FIOS teck come out and tell the mother inlaw that the MOCA device worked but the CISCO router that was connected that supplied WIFI to the guest house was not working. They got a new router ( TrendNet ) and it's WAN port is plugged into the MEB1100 but the web interface on the new TrendNet router says no internet connection. I took my laptop and plugged it into the MOCA device and I got an address of 192.168.1.99 but no gateway and I could not ping anything... specifically... I could not ping 192.168.1.254 which I think is the IP Address of the main aeris router... but I could be wrong on that. I unplugged the MOCA adapter, took it to the main house, took the coax that went into the main router out of the main router... plugged the coax into the MOCA (MEB1100) device, connected my laptop up to the MOCA device and again pulled a 192.168.1.99 ip address but could not ping anything... not gateway was assigned and 192.168.1.1 and 192.168.1.254 were not pingable. Does the MOCA adapter just not work like I think it should? I had two lights of the same color on the MOCA device when it was plugged into the coax. I think that they were both green... but they could have been a yellow-ish green. They were steady. I am color blind so I can't say for certain they were green or not. They were not red and they were not flashing. I was assuming I'd plug into the MOCA device and pull an ip address and gateway address. Should I have been able to do something on my laptop plugged into the MOCA device when the known, working FIOS coax was plugged into it? - thanks - jack

I just got an email from frontier looking for volunteers for a FCC/SamKnows Survey. I signed up for a SamKnows white box a few years ago, and never heard back about anything. Now with SpaceX's starlink only a few months away from becoming something, i don't know if they are worried about having competition. Or are genuine about improving their service. Well, i checked the yes i'm interested box and we will see what happens.

Arris NVG443B modem connecting to a UNIFI AP AC(pro)

I have read up on previous posts (earliest was about 2018). I have an Arris NVG443B Modem that I am trying to hook up a UNIFI AP AC/pro to. This particular frontier modem, I have not updated the firmware. From previous posts I see that this particular frontier modem only does transparent bridging. Not true bridging. Should I update the modems firmware to the latest? Will that enable a true bridging scenario? Is it even important to update said firmware? Does anyone know the steps to connect this Unifi AP AC pro to a Frontier modem?

New NVG443B firmware 9.3.0h3d36 is unpolished as hell

Title says it all. There's a new section under Status, that shows a net little graph in real-time of your network activity. You can select any device, and it detects most major services and it will display what they have been spending bandwidth on, or you can get a network overview. The issue? It's not password protected. I don't care, and it's not like you'll get any sensitive information off of it, it's just lacking polish. There are typos and extremely weird wording in the side help bars too. I wonder who developed the firmware, it must have been outsourced. It's better than nothing, but I would much rather get some port-based QoS or something than this stupid glorified wireshark graph. Just horribly polished.

Possible to combine accounts?

My mother has 2 accounts. One is a triple play FiOS plan through Frontier. Two is an account for a small non-profit which is just a phone. Due to the ridiculous fees on the individual line and with everything going on she is looking to cut back on expenses for her non-profit. Her goal is to dump the phone line on account 1 since everyone calls her cell now, and then transfer the phone number from account 2 to account 1. Is this possible? If so what is the easiest way to go about trying to do this?
