[FIOS] PNW - Latency/poor download numbers the last month
We currently use 25/25 Fios internet through Frontier and began experiencing latency/poor download numbers on January 24. I've run numerous speedtests during this time and the only number being impacted is the download. Drops as low as 1-2mbps during peak hours in the evening. Upload number is virtually not impacted at all. Rock solid 25-27 at all times.
We've been through four tickets with Frontier, they've replaced our modem/router twice, replaced the main board in our ONT box, and still nothing. They frequently deny that there's anything wrong on their end, but I've read about the switch-over to Northwest and have my suspicions. Our service is borderline unusable some evenings. I downloaded and began using PingPlotter, so I can provide that sort of data if helps pinpoint an issue upstream somewhere.
Just wondering if anyone in the Portland, OR and surrounding areas have similar symptoms.

Overhead Line Removal
I was looking at the different threads and was wondering if you can help with an issue I have with overhead lines from Frontier in Tampa, FL. I have two of their poles in my back yard with copper line. That line dead ends on one of those poles. There is now fiber off the street in our area and there is no service off that copper line, all cut except one (not sure if it's in service), but again, there is fiber off the street and what I use. I would like to get the overhead copper line and the two poles off my back yard (I know they most likely have utility easement).
I happen to recently take down the house on my property and there is nice clear access for trucks to those poles before fence goes up. Perfect time for them to clean up obsolete/redundant infrastructure. I am having tough time getting in touch with right people. The dead end pole is also leaning heavily and I am concerned for my kids (2, 7, 9) who play in the area. Another reason to fix this. Would really appreciate all the help you can provide!!!
Action I took so far:
Called general 1-800 number. They took my info and told me they will put a service call out. I asked to call me 30 min in advance as I work during the day and the window they gave me was 4+ hours. They told me ok. I later got a voice-mail form the tech who came out, no advance call as I requested (did not see the call, went to voice-mail, may have had bad service at work, that's on me). He did not leave a return number (I understand that he would not want to give out his personal cell number for privacy, but not even office number). Told me he did not see an issue and will pass on to his supervisor who will call me. It's been two weeks and no call. I called a few days back to the 1-800 number, as again that's all I could find. I ended up getting a fairly rude general support person who told me to keep waiting. Told me she is in TX and does not have access to anyone locally.

[FIOS] Home Wireless Network Design Help Please
Hi All,
I need some advice on how best to architect my wireless network. This is what I have:
ROUTERS:
========
- FIOs router (NVG468MQ) from Frontier that is connected to Netgear GS108T switch.
- AC1900 (R7000) purchased several years ago
- AC2600 (R7800) newly purchased - NOT INSTALLED YET!
MY HOME:
========
1. Two story home about 1,900 sq. ft.
2. Most of my office and kids devices (printer, NAS, laptop, pc) are locate on the second floor.
3. The broadbnd router from Frontier is locate in my office on the 2nd floor and is connect to Netgear GS108T switch. I only subscribe to the internet service.
4. I have CAT5 cables going from the GS108T switch to several locations on both floors
5. My AC1900 is located on 1st floor using one of the CAT5 drops.
6. Other than TV and related devices like (Google Home, Next Protect, Doorbell), I plant to install wireless outdoor webcam in the near future.
WHAT I NEED:
============
With the above said, I need feedback on how best to design the network. Some points:
1. Should I set the Frontier router to transparent bridging and connect it to one of the AC routers?
2. Should I place the AC2600 on the 2nd floor or swap it with the AC1900 on the 1st floor?
3. Do you recommend setting both both AC1900 and AC2600 to be on the same network (sing the same SSID)?
4. Currently, my AC1900 downstairs disconnects wireless devices when the microwave is on.
I know this is a bit too much to digest. I just need to start gathering info so I can plan things out.
Thanks in advance.

[DSL] New Bonded DSL Service Stats
I just had Frontier bonded DSL service installed and I must say I'm pleasantly surprised. I'm getting consistent 25 Mbps down and 1-2 Mbps up. However, I've only had it for about a day so I guess time will tell. I was previously getting less than 1 Mbps down with the single line service. I am attaching my stats just to get an opinion on how they look, mainly because I have no idea what I'm looking at so any input is appreciated. According to the installer it is about a 6,500-7,000 foot loop. Thanks!

[Northwest] Internet in Oregon continues to improve as sale date approaches
I don't think we give credit where it is due nearly often enough. Since the transition to NorthWest Fiber began (or rather the run-up to the sale date) my Internet has gotten massively better (well, with the exception of a bunch of hiccups while Frontier cut the NorthWest off their nationwide backbone over a month ago). The first step to major improvement was transitioning to all Level 3 upstream IP transit, but then they also added IP transit from the new backbone (Wholesail Networks), however, they totally de-preff'd/prepended it such that hardly any traffic went over it.
Clearly today they made some changes as I am now able to egress to some destinations locally here in Oregon!
As a very specific example, I am now 2.2 ms RTT away from Cloudflare's local Hillsboro POP! 1.1.1.1

New XGS-PON ONT 10Gig Ethernet port died?
Today I had my old broken GPON ONT replaced with a new white XGS-PON ONT (FOX222) in Tampa. After the work was finished we ran tests and everything looked great with expected full speed on Ethernet.
About an hour after the tech left, the 10Gig Ethernet port on the ONT seems to have died. The router sees nothing plugged in and the LAN light on the ONT is off, even when I plug it directly into the ONT with multiple short cables to make sure it isn't a bad cable. Phone support says they can see the ONT is responsive and provisioned correctly, but the Ethernet port is somehow disabled and remote attempts to re-enable it don't work. They seem completely baffled and say another tech visit is required to replace the ONT again.
I'm not thrilled about having to wait another four days to get this fixed after waiting three to get this first tech visit. Working from home on limited tethered mobile data for now.
Is there anything else I could possibly try in the meantime? I noticed there is another Ethernet port on the ONT labeled "LAN." Plugging into that instead of the 10GigE lights up the ONT LAN light and the router can see it, but it's unable to pull an IP address.

Fronter DSL: Problematic since upgrade to bonded
Hi all,
About six months ago, we were able to upgrade our DSL service; but, it has been nothing but problems since. For several years we ran at 3Mbps with hardly any issues. Then we found out that Frontier had "upgraded" the infrastructure in our area and could now get 12Mbps. This would be through bonded lines.
The first week, we were actually getting 16Mbps, but after a few days the connection randomly dropped throughout the day. A modem reset would fix it temporarily. We then called a tech to the house. They dropped us down to 12Mbps and said the signal to noise ratio was too high. This temporarily resolved the issue, but after a few days it was right back to the same random and frequent dropping.
We dealt with it for a few weeks, and even tried a replacement modem but we had to schedule another tech.
This tech said something about the lines back at the CO were reversed... and he was able to correct them. Again, this seemed to fix the issue for a couple of days, but alas, it went right back to dropping out.
What's odd is during all this, not only would the WAN connection drop, but the router would occasionally kick us off Wi-Fi and say our password was incorrect. We'd enter the right password and it still would not let us rejoin until we restarted the modem. The model is NVG443B.
Now granted, sometimes it can go a few days without dropping, but then suddenly it'll start dropping again 10 times during a day.
So I am not sure if there is an issue with that particular modem or it's something on Frontier's side that they don't know how to fix. This has been super frustrating, now even more so with the COVID-19 situation.
I think my next step is to try a different model modem/router. Can anyone recommend a model that would work good with Frontier bonded DSL?
Also, if I end up calling Frontier, how can I explain this to get them to actually do something?
TLDR; Frontier Internet randomly drops. Recently installed bonded DSL service. Need advice or a new modem.

[DSL] DSL resets every 15 minutes
Using good ol' 6meg home DSL from Frontier. New install as of January 2020. I had no other options so don't suggest I switch... It is what it is.
Anyway, the connection resets every 15 minutes like clockwork, at the 00, 15, 30 and 45 minutes over every hour. Line goes completely down and takes about 30 seconds to come back up. Any ideas why?

[FIOS] [FIOS] Consistent packet loss problem in WA over past couple weeks
Hey folks,
I'm in the 98021 area and on the 100/100 plan. I have Ethernet all the way from the ONT to my Netgear XR500 router. Over the past couple of weeks, I started noticing high network latency and it's gotten particularly worse over this past week. I really felt this when playing the Path of Exile game which can be rather sensitive to latency fluctuations.
So I pulled out PingPlotter and below are a couple screenshots of various routes. Couple of observations:
1. The twitch.tv plot is really weird. That first hop through my router always has ~50% packet loss. I'd reset and restart the plot multiple times and the same pattern happens. FWIW, it could just be my router's QoS functionality kicking in. At the time of collecting the trace, I do have an active Twitch stream going over wi-fi with no visual artifacts so perhaps this is the router's QoS functionality at work.
2. As you can see, packet loss at every hop with every route, excluding first hop.
Is anybody else around the area is experiencing anything like this? Can I chalk this up to the ongoing Frontier->Ziply switchover? Or should I start tearing my house apart to root cause the problem? :(
Thanks for any insights!

10 Gbps / XGS-PON
Let's use this thread for discussion around everything faster than 1 Gbps.
Today, I had a technician attempt to install the FOX222 (XGS-PON) ONT at my residence in an attempt to fix a throughput issue with my gigabit service. He was unable to because my neighborhood was not setup to use XPON (an abbreviated term that Frontier is using for XGS-PON, apparently). He did tell me that others in my city had requested this ONT and that they were using it with their gigabit service.
Frontier's most recent press releases have talked about being 10 Gbps ready. It is unclear if that is for business customers only or if residential will be included.
The FOX222 ONT is an indoor-only ONT. Frontier must not have wanted to spend extra on the Nokia models that had the heatsink built-in. Here are some pictures.

Showtime preview
I got an informative email from Frontier yesterday mentioning a Showtime preview as well as Epic pictures free. We were able to watch "American Graffiti" on Showtime On Demand last night. Neither of us had seen that movie before and found it a delightful respite from the news feeds. It's a 1973 movie set in 1963, so there were no F-words in it, which was also nice to not hear.

[FIOS] Full bill for recent services (e.g.: 500M/500M or 1G/1G)?
Hi all,
I'm currently on 100M/100M business (for static IPs) service from a couple year ago. I'd like to try to take advantage of the new pricing for 500M/500M business service they currently have. However, the fine print says something about a "Business High-Speed Internet Fee ($5.99/mo)". Can folks confirm they are being charged this fee? How about the Wi-Fi router. I have my own set up and would not use their router, so I don't have to pay for it.
Anyways, if anyone on one of these new plans could list the individual fees and other forced nonsense they are charging, that would be great.
Thanks!
