[FIOS] Latency Difference between 500Mb and gigabit FiOS service

Is there a significant improvement (or any difference at all) in latency between 500Mbs FiOS and gigabit FiOS services? I've signed up for an install next week and am trying to rationalize the faster speed. Currently, I have 200Mb service from Spectrum.

[FIOS] Technical Issue's with Frontier FiOS 1 Gig Service

I am moving this thread out of the following: https://www.dslreports.com/forum/r32556506-FIOS-Frontier-FiOS-1000-1000-for-74-99-New-Customers PLEASE POST TECHNICAL ISSUES IN THIS THREAD. My Truck Roll for today has been canceled. So I can assume my issue is network related. The issue I am experiencing is the upload is maxing out around 690-740 Down. Upload is right on target 900+. I have been on the phone with Tech Support. Look at a few items and did some tests. They say that they are getting well over 900/900 on their tests at the router. The next step was a truck roll. That was scheduled for today but was canceled this morning. I have been through my network. it is a 1 Gig Cat-5E. All showing 1 Gig status and all cables tested. What I have done so far: I have tried 3 different routers. Actiontec Rev I Verizon firmware. G1100 with Frontier firmware. Arris Router with Frontier firmware. All three router's had pretty much the same results. 600-700 down and 850/950 up. Each router test was with no other devices detected. wired desktop to the router. I tried a direct connection from the ONT to the desktop. 742/965 Before I go out and purchase another router, I want to wait to see what Frontier finds out.

[Modem] Arris modem not compatible with 2nd Gen Echo Dot?

$

I just upgraded Internet speed from Frontier, requiring a new Arris NVG443B modem. The Arris modem does not find my 2nd Generation Amazon Echo Dot and vice versa. Setup cannot proceed. Frontier says the problem must be with the Echo Dot, since five other wireless devices connect successfully. I wonder if the modem is not backward compatible with the older (2016) device. Your thoughts?

As said I am using a Netgear Dm111pspv2 with Frontier and every few hours every day no matter the weather I get a 30 to 60 second dis-and reconnect. If anyone could offer advice I would be very grateful, I will post all logs and info stats for you. Mon, 2020-02-03 06:39:45 - LCP down. Mon, 2020-02-03 06:40:21 - Initialize LCP. [Modem] Suggestions for a new modem/ router or a combo

Hi. With frontier planning on removing the equipment fee in June, (the phone rep told me they are). I want to get my own equipment. Currently I have the d2200d which is a piece of junk. We are on the frontier fundamental internet plan, getting about 5-7mbs. Our equipment is set as a routed bridge mode due to the area that we live in. What equipment is good for a combo unit, or a cheap but very good modem and router to buy separately? They tried to get me to use a Arris Frontier NVG468MQ, when I was having issues a year ago, but the tech told my wife that it doesn't work in our area, and didn't take it back. I'd prefer to try that since it seems I can keep that unit, but not sure if it will work. Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

[FIOS] NVG468MQ Uptime / Reboots

What's your average up time on this router? I'm seeing reboots every day, so I suspect something is wrong with it. The tech had to play a lot with the splitters because it seems the RF signal is very hot from the ONT adapter and overpowering MoCA. I'm wondering if that's knocking the router off line. However, looking at the MoCA stats, I see no errors so that seems far fetched to cause the router reboots.

Frontier Unlimited Data

Do y'all think frontier will always be unlimited? It makes more more worried that there is more of a risk of data caps now that we have a new ceo, and new senior vice president. I know Dan Mcarthy hated data caps and said it was a business thing and not a network necessity, but he's no longer ceo. Makes me wonder what bernie han thinks of data caps. Do y'all think frontiers unlimited data is here to stay? If not, i'll be switching to my local provider who has unlimited data (but is very pricey)

Help with NVG443B configuration issue

I have a Arris NVG443B DSL gateway, and (possibly) an unusual double NAT issue. The NVG443B is hooked into the DSL phone line jack. I have no other devices hooked into that jack. It serves not only as my DSL modem, but my 2.4G & 5G router as well. For reasons unknown to me, it sees my combo Blu-Ray/streaming media player as a "host" and will not let it connect to the internet. Before you start suggesting: o The Blu-Ray player worked perfectly well with the old ActionTech DSL gateway o The Blu-Ray player has *only* 2.4G wireless connectivity o The Blu-Ray player works fine with different iPhones configured as sharing hotspots for their LTE network connection o I would prefer to avoid buying any new hardware if possible I'm missing something about how to configure the NVG443B. Kindly help me. Thanks!

I went through a termination of my old Frontier FIOS yesterday and had a new one provisioned today with 500/500 service Nothing changed at all but now the Ethernet connection from the ONT to my router is dead. Even tried direct connection to laptop at ONT and same issue. ONT has green light for power, battery, MGMT, Data No light for Link Carrier or Speed Can anyone help look at this on the backend?

[Email] Ever try to have your e-mail password reset? Sounds easy right?

I was asked to help out my daughter's friend's 85 year old grandmother reset her e-mail password. She has a medical condition that affects her memory and isn't isn't too good at writing down her passwords and putting them in a safe place. She spent all day yesterday working with Frontier trying to get it fixed. When she was done her Web mail worked but once she turned her computer off and back on what she thought was her current password no longer worked. I quickly found out in order to get any type of tech support on this matter required her phone number, account number, PIN number and a 5 digit passcode. What she thought was her 5 digit passcode didn't work. The help desk people told me to logon to her account online and I could find the passcode there, except this 85 year old senior always pays by check so she doesn't have an online account... so I try to create a new one for her using her Frontier e-mail address and once I fill out all the information and press enter I am told an account exists with this e-mail address already.. yet she claims she never created one before. Asking an 85 year old with memory problems to click on fuzzy CAPTCHA puzzles three or four times in a row just to logon to e-mail is plain stupid and not user friendly. Demanding a cell phone number for recovery won't work for her either since whatever number they have for her is not her current number. I'm about ready to give up on Frontier, have her sign up for Spectrum cable, VOIP phone and port her phone number over just to force Frontier to terminate her account! Steve

NVG468MQ and hidden 192.168.144.X subnet

Just exploring this router some more and I've noticed that it provisions 2 local IP subnets: 192.168.254.X and 192.168.144.X. The first subnet we are well aware of and use, and of course you can change to anything you wish. However, there's a separate 192.168.144.X subnet on which the router assigns itself 192.168.144.254. This address does not change if you chance the router's address of course. You cannot change it. You cannot deactivate it, You cannot directly ping it, but if you assign your laptop a 192.168.144.1 address for example, then of course you can ping. if you surf then to 192.168.144.254 then you get the normal router management UI. You can see these ranges and addresses under the UI: http://192.168.254.254/cgi-bin/routing.ha I didn't immediately see any changes to the router UI while accessed from the .144 subnet. Does anyone know the origins of this and why it exists? Some theories I have is that either: (a) it's a failsafe address to manage the router from the LAN side if you don't know it's address and don't care to go digging to find it... (b) MoCA adapters use this address range for their UI (Actiontec for example) and that somehow the Broadcom firmware requires it? Neither theory seems very likely.

I called in reference to upgrading my router which in turn was likely going to also require me to upgrade my speed - not a big deal if that gets my VOIP working.. But when I get over to customer service the little man gives me the above about my account being locked out temporarily - "so we can check that you have all fiber, etc.." or something else to try to shake me off.. Anyone ever heard of this? I find it odd that this block has occurred at the exact same time I want to make a change, I see nothing on the net about others mentioning similar experiences, there is no trouble ticket on my account, etc... Does anyone have any thoughts on this? Thanks!

I'm getting information that technicians will no longer receive a commission for selling FiOS TV. My sources are from the Northwest, so don't if this because of the sale to Northwest Fiber or if it's a Frontier-wide thing.

Bypassing required ISP supplie router (Vantage Fiber service in CT)

$

I have the 500/500 Vantage Fiber service from Frontier in Connecticut. This service requires that you use both their own ONT and router (DHCP 802.1x). I am trying to properly configure the required ISP router (Arris) to be as passive as possible, and to let my Ubiquiti Dream Machine Pro (UDMP) do all the work. This is the network layout: ONT (ISP supplied/required) >> Arris NVG448B (ISP supplied/required) >> UDMP >> AP’s and Switch So far I have been able to find the following methods: 1. Put Arris into bridge mode - Router has the option to do this, but if I do I am unable to get internet on the UDMP. It seems like this bridge mode prevents the router form completing whatever security check the ISP is asking for. 2. Set a DMZ on the Arris for the UDPM. - DMZ firewall mode set to IP Passthrough, with the MAC address of the UDMP assigned. WIFI disabled, no other devices connected to Arris. 3. Trick the ISP by swapping a managed switch in for the Arris as described in this linked post - https://community.ui.com/questions/How-to-eliminate-ATandT-gateway-from-a-UniFi-setup/6f471739-7694-4512-9bb9-d1c8728d929f I currently have things configured as described in option 2. This produced the public WAN address on the UDMP (good), but is only getting me between 125/125 and 250/250 depending on when I do the speed test. When I go directly through the router I am pretty constantly able to get 400+/400+. I have also experienced a lot of packet loss notifications while playing ps4, and some buffering mid stream on Netflix. Things just don’t feel right with it and I am not satisfied. I am thinking of trying option 3, however I haven’t heard of anyone using it with my specific ISP so I wasn’t sure if it would work. I don’t mind the ~$40 for a switch if it works well, or the potential tinkering if I lose power. The process of modifying the JSON file of the UDMP is something I haven’t done before, but everything seems manageable to me. Any thoughts or alternate suggestions?
