My install tech from comcast comes out on Sunday to install my gigabit internet. My total bill including taxes a month will be only $92.16 after taxes everything included! Tier 2 speeds and reliability here I come, I regret the day I ever moved to Frontier where I was paying over $115 a month for 300/300 and unreliable and slow speeds / packet loss. Cheers Frontier.

Verizon Home 5G in Frontier Areas
Verizon wireless announced today that their 5G service to the HOME will cost $70/mo if non VZ wireless or $50/mo discounted if you have VZ wireless. Speed will be 300mb - 1gb depending on location with NO data caps.
Anyone know if they will offer in Frontier areas of if they are prevented from offering?

[DSL] Arris NVG443B router sucks
We were "upgraded" to this POS router almost a year ago. The tech that came for a service call was having a lot of problems trying to figure out where in our lines we were having issues. He thought maybe under the house, but since he had a bum leg, he wouldn't go under. He also dropped us from the 25Mbps to 18, citing it was better because 25 left no "room for errors". Oooook. But he never told billing he changed it. And he said if we found 18Mbps didn't cut muster, we could call and change it back.
We started having problems with our internet constantly dropping (I'd see the notification on my phone). So about 3 mos later, we called again, requested a different tech. He had nothing to offer for solutions. We also explained that we wanted to go back to the 25Mbps, especially because we wanted to add our security cameras and use video streaming as we were cord-cutting. He said the upload speeds were sufficient for streaming!!! Um.... and this guy is a tech? He also explained that the whole neighborhood was being throttled down to 18Mbps and that we couldn't go back up to the 25! We live in a rural area and Frontier is the only service we can get (except maybe Hughes Net).
A couple months later, the router problems continued, so a new tech brought a replacement Arris modem, did the firmware update, and lo and behold, we're still having the same internet going in and out issue! He also informs us that they're actually supposed to be taking our neighborhood down to 12Mbps!!! We have NEVER been formally notified by Frontier about any changes to our contract since we signed up for the 25Mbps. And the tech didn't have us sign anything when he took us down to 18... I'm beyond livid. We utilize a lot of wireless devices. And streaming is only possible in the late late evenings. And there are no more lines available for Frontier to issue in our area. We're also told there are no plans to change their infrastructure in our area.
Regarding the Arris router (modem?), I'm seeing it's an on-going issue. Is there a non-Frontier replacement that can be purchased to replace it? I already have a mesh network set up because the Arris literally loses any signal strength once you're more than 5-7 feet away from it.
I can post numbers from the router if necessary.
Thanks in advance

(!) The system database is invalid.
So, after our storm tonight, I woke up without internet (Frontier FIOS, Los Angeles area).
Router is reachable from wired computer and gets an IP (restarted it several times), but there is an ominous warning on top of the page that "The system database is invalid" (see picture).
I also notice that the router configuration got reset (default SSID, my forwarding rules missing, etc). Curiously, the router password did not get reset and I was able to go to the admin pages with the password saved in the browser. WAN IP was different to what I typically have but looked valid but differed in the last two octets.
Called tech support:
restart router again. Problem remains
he restarted the ONT remotely while router was turned off. Problem remains.
finally, I loaded my last router configuration file (from late 2018). Problem solved. WAN IP as usual again.
Lesson:
Unless you keep the router at the default, save the good configuration so it can be restored easily.
Does anyone have any idea what that "database error" actually means?
Is this internal to the router or on their end? (I did not clone the WAN MAC (not even sure if you can). It is the same as on the sticker). My best guess is that something got corrupted on the router and reloading the configuration cleared it up. We did have heavy rains and lightning storms.

[FIOS] Slow download speeds in South Everett / Silver Lake WA area tonight.
Hello,
I recently upgraded to from 100/100 to 200/200 FIOS in the Everett Washington area.
However, since the upgrade, my download speeds actually dropped!
My speed tests are around 10-60mbps download and 200 upload.
Talking to a co-worker who lives close by (also Frontier FIOS) he is also experiencing very slow download speeds.
40-60mbps download and close to 200 upload.
Are others having problems tonight?

DSL modem replacement, quick thoughts....
New to the site.
Been a Frontier customer for over 20 years. Always paying for "up to" 7 mbps service, never had better than 2.5. Lately have been having constant intermittent breaks in service. Tech came out and replaced the modem. No joy. Just installed an Actiontec GT784WN because I read a post on here from awhile back about someone doing that and having good luck. Anyhoo it's working out of the box. Speedtest.net gives 2.9 mbps. We'll see how it goes from here. So far, so good.
Replaced a Netgear D2200D. Not interested in getting a tech out again to replace a bad modem with another bad modem. $80 is worth getting rid of the headache.
Would do cable, but it's probably 400' to the house. Underground....

[DSL] Modem, Repeater, Card In Local Dslam Office. Tech is lost!
The original problem presented it self some months ago with the connection (7550) going into red light status around midnight or so for a few hours then resolved shortly. Then the problem disappeared a month, And returned with a permanent red light on the modem. I was convinced it was the modem because the E1 and E2 lights were on indicated a plugged in connection, though there was no wired Ethernet plugged in. To me indicating the modem had gremlins and was the problem and my eyes and the tech agreed and installed a new modem (D2200D), not before replacing the card my line was on because it tested bad too.which fixed the problem yay...No not so much because a month later gremlins returned with the occasional red light and frequent wifi problems in which I would have to reboot to get all my devices to re-sync. I am beginning to think the (repeater amplifier) mid line could be the only thing left to be sense the (modem and card) and basically everything has been replaced. Please if anyone is versed in understanding these problems i would greatly enjoy some help? thank you

Cancelling Frontier DSL Soon: What Should I Do To Prepare?
As posted above, I will be cancelling DSL service from Frontier soon. What should I do to prepare? I have some email addresses that are "...@frontiernet.net". Does anybody here have any suggestions on how to deal with that issue? I assume the moment I cancel with them the emails are not forwarded? Or do they have a means to deal with that issue?
As far as the equipment goes, should I drop it off at a local office or is it better to ship it to them via UPS or USPS?

Perfect sync to the DSLAM, no IP.
I just had the displeasure of dealing with someone troubleshooting per Frontier policy rather than based on skill, experience and knowledge of how the system works.
A few days ago my ADSL line stopped receiving an IP address nor can it see a gateway. The actual line syncs to well above my price tier. Of course the line check shows fine because I am connected to the DSLAM and have great numbers. I tried three modems so what is Frontier going to do? Send me a new modem which will be here next Wednesday and will not fix the problem. Will I have to pay for all these days I have no service?
I had the exact same problem some months ago. After 5 days of useless shotgun troubleshooting by the inept, it ended up being on their end.
Meanwhile I will isolate that modem (or any modem on that ADSL line) to a direct PC and see if it put me back in a walled garden scenario since I have nothing to lose at this point.
I reiterate, this is twice within a year. I should have and now will go to Frontier Direct here. I get much better help here, same is when it was Verizon. Avoid the frontier Chat window like the plague.

[Vantage] Connecticut phone calls dropping (Formally Uverse)
Lately my calls have an Echo then the call drops. I’ve swapped phones and it still does it. I’m not sure if it’s related or not, but I seem to have some tv pixelation issues also. I pulled the battery and unplugged the gateway / modem. I just wanted to check here before I called them.

cisco + EHWIC-VA-VDSL-A configuration & discussion
Anyone wanting a working config for the cisco modem cards that works with frontier service (atleast on ADSL) Its your lucky day! remember to set the password encryption, after you know its online and working. (set the 0 before your password to 7) Just to be safe :)
Edit: Oh yea, also its a huge pain in the butt to redo a config if you mess something up and have to reset to default, so a word to the wise, speaking from experience...
I'm somewhat new to cisco hardware, but if anyone has questions about getting their hardware online, I can try to give advice.

Terrible peering issue with Frontier Fios
I am having terrible peering issues with twitch. I cannot hardly watch twitch streams at all without constant buffering on 300/300. However if I put on a vpn, or even use xfinity wifi hot spot on my phone. POOF! Magic! I can watch any stream with absolutely zero buffering. Here is my buffering to twitch.tv

As you can see there is a significant increase in lag in the handoff from my ISP to fastly the provider that Twitch uses. On some tracert's I get a request timed out and not even a response from that server before going to the final destination.
Any advice on how to get this to Frontier's attention to have this fixed?

[FIOS] Is ZyXEL the bottleneck ?
I have FiOS 100/100 and my setup is: ONT (coax) -> ZyXEL HLA 3000 -> (CAT5) -> Frontier Router (FiOS-G1100 by greenwave) -> 8 port switch ->4 PCs. Everything is CAT5 hardwired, no wifi.
When the kids are streaming videos, my wife's VOIP audio call quality tanks horribly. Logging into the router, the total bandwidth usage is not that high, something like 30 Mbs. Speed test shows I get 95/95 with no one else on the home network so it appears Frontier is delivering the promised 100/100.
My question is where's the bottleneck in this setup? I'm suspecting the ZyXEL but have no proof. Anyone have a opinion to share on how I can improve my wife's VOIP quality when the kids are home?
The current router from Frontier doesn't support QoS AFAIKT. I've considered replacing it with my own router running DD-WRT so I can QoS the kids PC's down. But that won't help if the bottleneck is the ZyXEL.
Thoughts on that?
thanks in advance,
nrg

Guide
When is the guide updated?
My guide showed 2 shows on KTLA at 5 and 5:30 tomorrow. Today the on air people said they were on at 8 tomorrow. Had a friend check her Spectrum TV guide. It matched what the on air people just said.
Rebooted the DVR and the guide is now corrected.
If I had not rebooted would my timers have recorded the wrong shows?

What is this building?
The air conditioner was running on a cold day, and the power meter was showing a usage of 3,800 watts. It also has an ant problem, lol.
This is a former Verizon FiOS area, but if this is for fiber I had thought that GPON was a passive network from the central office to the customer, only requiring splitters that do not need electricity to run.
