Recording on multiple DVRs

We are thinking about getting 3 DVRs so we can separate the recordings. Customer service told us that all the records would not be sepsrate. This doesn't sound right. I would assume that the recordings would be stored on the DVR that recorded them. This way my wife can record her stuff and I can record mine. Is this correct???

[FIOS] Dealing with Retentions, or getting the "new customer" promo

Greetings all - I've been a mostly-happy FIOS customer for over 2 years, getting mostly reliable (except for some peak time congestion) 30/30 FIOS service for $40/mo. I see they have a promo offering 100/100 for $30/mo. Any advice on how to get some of that sweet gravy? Thanks!

[Internet] Frontier Appears to be Overreporting Coverage to my Neighborhood

$

Hi DSLReports, It's been an issue to me for some time that my neighborhood only has one non-satellite broadband option (Spectrum by Charter). The FCC makes available a Fixed Broadband Coverage Map. According to the map, Frontier Communications reports Fiber coverage of 30/30 to my census block (Census block ID: 120570108091001). The census block map pretty much exactly corresponds with the neighborhood I live in, which is an owner-operated condominium (40 units, single-floor, single-occupant, etc.). It's my belief that Frontier is overreporting coverage. I brought this concern (and map info) to @AskFrontier on Twitter, and the response was as follows:"I do apologize, but the information they're reporting is incorrect. While we do have Fiber in some areas of FL in your specific area we only have copper DSL. I do not show the facilities for Fiber even on an engineering plan for the area as of this time. ^ TBM"Apparently the FCC's map is based on something called FCC Form 477. I sent an e-mail to the FCC asking if there is anything that I can do if I believe that there is routine overreporting of coverage for my neighborhood, but I'm not holding my breath on an optimistic response. Does anyone here have experience with an ISP reporting coverage that doesn't really exist? Is there anything that I can do if I at least want it honestly reflected that my neighborhood doesn't have Frontier as an option to the FCC?

[DSL] Very Poor Repair support in Southern Ohio

i live in the Georgetown Ohio area and I have an outage that happened during a storm Saturday night. I called support this morning and they said that they would have to send somebody out. When they tried to schedule it the earliest date they got from the system was March 27. Since today is February 26 that is not acceptable. I am not sure what the problem is but I have requested a call back from somebody higher up the food chain. This is some of the worst support I have ever even heard of.

[FIOS] What if Frontier opens up their FiOS networks to other ISPs?

$

Since Frontier is bleeding FiOS customers, and their recovery doesn't seem realistic and they're headed toward bankruptcy, wouldn't it be cool if they tried opening their fiber networks up like back in the day when the Baby Bells were forced to open their networks to CLECs for DSL back in the ISP golden age days? Sure they would lose out on direct customers, but if they let in ISPs and competition between them they would still collect more lines and access fees to keep the network running. Those ISPs would have to buy transit from Frontier as a backhaul for Frontier's PON networks and then some sort of access to a backbone(s). IMO this would bring in more customers than the current setup. The PONs already have this technology built in from what I understand in case the courts went back to the old policy of opening up the telcos again. I know it's a kind of fantasizing at this point, but maybe some renegade Frontier exec gives it some thought as a last ditch effort to avoid bankruptcy? Just an interesting discussion thread, nothing more.

[FIOS] Comparing Arris NVG468MQ and FIOS-G1100

I recently renewed my FIOS contract and the installer gave me the option to replace the G1100 with a Arris NVG468MQ. I declined and kept the G1100 because I might regret it without being able to test and compare in detail, and go back to the G1100 if desired. For that reason, I now bought a Frontier branded new Arris NVG468MQ on ebay. The switch-over was pretty painless and I was able to do a side-by-side comparison. Overall, the features are similar, the G1100 has an extra USB port (i.e. two, that probably nobody uses), but the Arris also has VOIP (that I don't use) and has an on/off switch. A power switch adds another mechanical point of failure and another dumb failure point ("hey frontier, everything is plugged it but it does not work" ... "did you notice the switch?" :D). Power use: both use about 12W in normal use with both radios (2.4 and 5GHz) enabled. Tie! (the Arris phone connector (VOIP) is not used) The UI is arranged similarly but there are differences. For example the port forwarding seems more functional on the G1100 because you can create more advanced ranges via "advanced...port forwarding rules". On the Arris you need to create multiple rules if there are multiple ports (e.g. my security system requires TCP/1025 and TCP/8000 forwarded to the same local IP. This requires two rules on the Arris, but only a single rule on the G1100.) Logging is not that great on both. For example, the firewall log on the Arris is not configurable and only lists IPs, not even ports. I have not tried sending the logs to a syslog server to see if the are a little richer. All I want is to log incoming accepted connections to the forwarded ports but all I see is uninteresting noise with no useful information! One major bummer is the fact that the Arris apparently does not implement a NAT loopback proxy. This means if I try to use my remote security app from the LAN side (i.e. connecting to the public IP via ddns) the connection fails. On the G1100 this works perfectly! This is a major pain on the Arris and I hope that this will get fixed with a new firmware update. I found a workaround! Lets' assume that the dynamic DNS name of my WAN IP is "abc.xyzddns.net". First, I changed the local domain on the router to xyzddns.net (advanced...connection settings...domain name) and named my security DVR "abc" (main...find device...click...rename to new name), it will translate to the local IP address (after resetting all cached values in the OS, etc. might take a long time to take effect) Before adjusting as described: Ping abc.xyzddns.net will successfully ping the WAN IP but a connection to a forwarded port will not go to the DVR when the client is on the LAN. Broken! After making that adjustment: Ping abc.xyzddns.net will successfully ping the LAN IP of the security DVR. Since the IP address is now local when I am coming from the LAN, things work. Fixed! Note that if the client is coming from the WAN side, none of this matters. While this is a workable solution (and significantly more efficient because the traffic does not involve the router! :)), it requires a lot of guessing and jumping through flaming hoops on the configuration screens. It also does not work if more than one device needs forwarded ports. I hope that Arris will implement NAT loopback in upcoming firmware. This is a must for any modern router! Does anyone know if the Arris has additional configuration pages that are not exposed in the web UI, but can be reached by special URLs? Disclaimer: These are my personal findings and there is always a chance that I made a mistake or misinterpreted results. Feel free to test for yourself if the Arris implements NAT loopback or not. My observations indicate that it does not. An official word from Arris would be nice.

Getting DDWRT to work with the Grenwave router provided by Frontier.

Hi, Apologies for asking a question that may have been asked many times; but, I just flashed my WRT1900 ACSV2 to the latest beta of DD-WRT that is compatible with that router. I can't get the internet to work from the Greenwave G1100 router provided by Frontier on the newly flashed router when connecting via LAN from the G1100 to the flashed DD-WRT WRT1900 ACSV2. Any help appreciated.

Quantam DVR

Just an update on the terrible service from this company. One month ago ordered the new DVR and still not received it. Found out today it never was to be shipped from some unknown warehouse. Needs to be brought by a local tech. Then was told no install till the 21st. What a joke. Finally got it moved up to the 7th after telling them to cancel the damn deal. Also the newest bill was $50.00 to high and that got sorted out eventually. This has not been fun so far but we shall see what happens next Wednesday and also for what kind of bill we get next month. Have fun folks.

[FIOS] Phone and Data Support - Same Jack?

Hi, I am running FiOS using an ethernet connection from a phone jack converted to a data jack (at least that's what the installer said he did). Is it possible to split the jack somehow so I can connect an Ooma (or something like it) as well so that phone service is available throughout the house? I do not use a modem and currently have internet only with Frontier.

[Vantage] Help with Arris nvg443b bridge mode?

I'm hoping that some of the knowledgeable folks on this site can help me with instructions on setting the Arris nvg443b that Frontier provided with their 90/8 service into bridge mode so that I can use my own DD-WRT router?? AND/OR could someone possibly recommend a Bonded VDSL modem that's compatible with Frontier?? Frontier doesn't seem to have any knowledgeable people that can, or will, help with this. I've searched the Web thoroughly and have come up empty. The only setting on the router that I've found that sounds remotely related is Cascaded Router?? Thank you very much, in advance, for your assistance.

Here we go again! Getting screwed by Frontier

My internet was dragging badly, so I checked my speed and modem settings and discovered my provisioning had been knocked back down to 1.7 down and .45 upload. This is UNACCEPTABLE FRONTIER! We had this all fixed last month after the last slowdown and I was getting 6 down and .7 up as I had been getting for the past couple years. I know I'm in a "high demand" area now, but that's not my fault. I agreed to pay my bill every month in exchange for the speed promised. Frontier did not keep up with the demand. Allegedly, there is an upgrade that's supposed to take place. First it was Dec 31, then sometime in January, now, end of March. (Adamsville Mi system) https://frontier.com/resources/network-upgrade?mkt_tok=eyJpIjoiTURVd1lqYzJZVEUyT0dGayIsInQiOiJKMDhJYzBzaXBVczYxZVNEdU54VGNDb2NDM2NzSDdzN1hGbk5OMndWTSs5RVA4UmlWVkx3dWtGZStiWm1ZblwvS1JFUFhcL0VtQkFjTVNNdVEwSlN5MXBRWEdpeW5acmRUYWQ1M213RmdxVDRuS0JoOHJcLzlEaVZxZHlrTGtBOW5vUyJ9 I called the office of the president last month and was told the upgrade was already done. I talked to a tech last month on my last service call and he told me the equipment is here, just not installed. Called office of the president again today and was told the upgrade was done. So which is it? I'm being charged $44.99 for Broadband lite and getting these ultra slow speeds, (1.7 down and .45 upload) but look at the Frontier web pages that are trying to attract new customers. They are selling 12 Mbps for $25!!! https://internet.frontier.com/plans-pricing.html Any wonder why I'm upset?

Connect to FiOS LAN with MoCA bridge?

I'm trying to help a friend who has Frontier FiOS improve Wi-Fi coverage in her large home. I'd like to add access points in two rooms, each of which has a TV with an Arris IPC1100, connected via coax (Ethernet jacks are empty). The ONT is also connected by coax, as is the router's WAN connection. The only Ethernet connections in the existing system are from router LAN ports to computers. Is it possible to connect a Wi-Fi AP via a MoCA bridge, such that the AP and its wirelessly connected clients can obtain an IP address and internet access from the existing router? (Discussions about MoCA on this board all seem to be related to replacing or supplementing the FiOS router. I'd like to disturb the existing system as little as possible; except for poor Wi-Fi coverage, it's working fine.) If so, what hardware do you recommend? Also, if the new APs have the same SSID and WPA2 password as the existing router (so a phone or other device can roam between them), does that work smoothly? Thanks.

Quantum DVR usage question.

On the old Motorolla HD DVR I could watch a show, press play and see the current status of the playing how... 30 min left, 40 min left, etc. When I press the play button on the new quantum DVR I don't see anything on the screen. I can pause and see the status, but can't just press play. Is there a setting I am missing? - jack

Asymmetric MTU (1492 inbound/ingress; 1434 outbound/egress)? | VDSL2

$

I've been trying to deal with an issue that's been confounding me for the past year or so, in the quest to find any potential fix my horrendous online gaming experiences. Thus, I've drilled down to improper MTU settings as a possible source of my suffering. I seem to auto-negotiate some weird MTU values with my service. Based on many tests, the LetMeCheckIt site, and OpenWRT pppoe-wan logs, my inbound/ingress MTU seems to be 1492. My outbound/egress MTU seems to be 1434. Is this normal? Should I set both inbound and outbound to 1434? Or leave inbound at 1492, and set the client device (PC/PlayStation) to 1434? Somewhat interesting is, the Actiontec F2250 gateway Frontier gave me, if I run it as a combo router/modern, I'm unable to change any MTU settings. The inbound MTU is stuck at 1492 when using the F2250 as a router. With my OpenWRT router, I can make more adjustments, including changing the WAN-side MTU (ingress/inbound). I can even manually override the default-negotiated outbound/egress MTU. Like I said, it normally defaults to 1434, but I can up it to 1492 manually deep in the OpenWRT settings, with seemingly no ill-effects (no extra lag, no fragmentation in testing). This is all very confusing. I just want to figure out what the proper MTU settings are that I should be using, in order to avoid as much problems, undue lag, and fragmentation, as I possibly can. Adding to the confusion, doing the Netalyzer online diagnostic test, there seems to be a hop in my path MTU that is acting as a bottleneck (blackhole?). Basically, this hop is near my home, and is apparently bottlenecking my MTU to 552. Not sure what this means, how it affects me, or whether the test result is even accurate. I have 20/1 VDSL2+ in the south Sac area.

[FIOS] 3x FiOS Bundle Charge?

$

Basically I just had my dad check the home's FiOS bill in detail (since he has autopay and we were talking pricing) and we noticed that the bill had the FiOS Bundle Charge three times! Based on what I could find here, this charge apparently relates to TV, yet we don't even have FiOS TV at all. I plan to address this in the Direct forum too, but I thought I'd ask and see if anyone else had seen this type of charge before. In addition to that, let this serve as a reminder to check your bills for stuff you are not paying for. :)

Frontier employees strike in VA and WVA...

Fellow employee in another state wishing the striking workers good luck. We support you and we hope you do the same when our turn comes. Bungling executive missteps (which continue) have cost the jobs of thousands of Frontier workers already. Then, in their place, they continue to outsource work to customer service firms that deliver what is seen by the public as horrible service which endangers the jobs of the remainder of the real employees and the health of the company. The public should know that a majority of this work has been outsourced and what you experience when you call does not reflect Frontier's best and brightest: those of us who are the remaining company employees. The top five executives all bring in more than $1,000,000 even while the company is floundering and performing poorly. Asking the bottom-level union employees to sacrifice anything while collecting millions in salary is a non-starter. I assure you cuts wont be accepted in contract talks elsewhere. So sure, the outlook for the company is grim, maybe even hopeless, but there's no reason relatively low-paid employees should accept cuts just before the inevitable end - they wont be the ones with millions in the bank to fall back on when it's all over. Lastly, I even reserve some sympathy for the lower-level management employees that Frontier will wrangle into performing work in the strike areas. Sure, they are scabs, and overpaid ones at that, but they also have families and responsibilities of their own and their lives will be put on hold while having to endure what union employees will rightfully put them through. Bad choice by the executives.

[DSL] Call from Frontier

I just had a telephone call from Frontier advising higher speeds were available due to an upgrade. But the call sounded like it had a bad automobile ignition coils superimposed on it and I could just barely understand what was being said. But, I wonder if I upgrade if that will stop my constant resyncs that occur roughly every 10 minutes. :D

Hedgesville WV Upgrades?

Hopefully you will see this FrontierTech and be able to answer. Do you know if there are any upgrades happening in Hedgesville? Specifically on Back Creek Valley Road kind of near Dry Run Road. Over the past few days I have seen fiber network trucks from a 3rd party working along side the road. Just curious. Thanks!
