Had to replace a failing AT&T VIP1200/297 (~10 years old). Frontier sent a VIP2102 without a remote. During activation on 8/31 via chat, told the agent my 3 different models of AT&T remotes do not work with this box. He promised me a remote in 2-3 business days.
It didn’t show by 9/11, did another chat and no record of an order was found in the system and I would get one in 2-3 business days.
I waited until 9/14, did another chat and there was no record of an order and I would receive one in 2-3 business days. This time got an order number. All 3 chats were on weekday mornings to avoid off-shore support.
Still no order in the system on 9/17 and I wasn’t going to waste another couple of hours of chat. I priced a Spectrum bundle online and went to their local store. Worked with a great lady who gave me a written proposal that I accepted the next morning. She told me to call her if there were any issues with the installation. They gave me pricing good for 3 years with no contact or ETF.
Now 23 days after activation of the STB, the remote finally arrived. I came to the realization that if Frontier can’t handle a simple issue like a remote, trying to renegotiate a better deal or upgrade of my ancient AT&T equipment would be futile. As noted here, Frontier insults subscribers with fees and by forcing them to call/chat to for pricing. Spectrum publishes their rates and appears to only add an $8.85 broadcast fee and sales tax.
I’ll let you know how my 9/26 cut-over goes and what I got.
