Just got dsl service from Frontier a few days ago. Service is stable but slow since the installer said he would have to provision the line speed to 1.5 meg due to the distance (3.2 miles) to the central station.
While talking with customer service at frontier about establishing an email name and mentioning my low provisioned speed the rep asked me if I wanted to try and bump up the line speed.
Huh? I thought I was stuck at 1.5 megs down from what the installer told me. The rep said they would try bumping up the service to 2 megs and see what happens. If there was a problem they could just switch me back down.
Several minutes later my modem screen showed my provisioned spped was now up from 1789kps to 2553kps..... Woo Hoo!
Tried a quick speed test and not only was the speed up but my ping dropped from 44ms (average) to 24ms and the jitter was at (I kid you not) 2ms!!! compared to the average 75 jitter I was getting at 1.5megs.
Later that night I went back to the computer and saw the modem had been provisioned back down to 1789kps. So I called back customer service and was told my line could not be provisioned higher than what the installer recommended other wise I would have connection problems.
I am attaching the results from my speed test at both levels.
Anyone else run into this and if so, did you find out who to talk to so I can determine if my service will have problems rather than submit to (what seems like) a decision based on conjecture rather than actual fact.
