A few days ago a storm blew through, and our landline gained a background buzz/hum, and up/down dsl speeds shrunk. It got worse every day until we couldn't even hear the phone through the buzz, and dsl was around 970/650 ("normal" was between 4500-5000ish/736). Checked through the NID with the same results. Guy came out today and checked through the pedestal in the back alley and had the same buzz. Went to the remote (?), came back, and said he was going to try switching pairs (I think that's what he called it). When he returned he called from outside and voila the buzz/hum was gone and the dsl was back up. But now I notice that my stats are
DSL Speed (Kbits/Sec) 3808 768
Margin (dB) 7.2 10.0
Line Attenuation (dB) 50.9 31.5
Transmit Power (dBm) 18.6 11.9
when they had been
DSL Speed (Kbits/Sec) 4576 736
Margin (dB) 8.8 10.0
Line Attenuation (dB) 53.1 31.5
Transmit Power (dBm) 19.6 11.9
or better. Should I give it a day or so and see if it comes back up to 4500-5000 like before, or start whining now? :)
