I have FiOS 100/100 and my setup is: ONT (coax) -> ZyXEL HLA 3000 -> (CAT5) -> Frontier Router (FiOS-G1100 by greenwave) -> 8 port switch ->4 PCs. Everything is CAT5 hardwired, no wifi.
When the kids are streaming videos, my wife's VOIP audio call quality tanks horribly. Logging into the router, the total bandwidth usage is not that high, something like 30 Mbs. Speed test shows I get 95/95 with no one else on the home network so it appears Frontier is delivering the promised 100/100.
My question is where's the bottleneck in this setup? I'm suspecting the ZyXEL but have no proof. Anyone have a opinion to share on how I can improve my wife's VOIP quality when the kids are home?
The current router from Frontier doesn't support QoS AFAIKT. I've considered replacing it with my own router running DD-WRT so I can QoS the kids PC's down. But that won't help if the bottleneck is the ZyXEL.
Thoughts on that?
thanks in advance,
nrg

Frontier Fundamental Internet in California
I got a Frontier ad in the mail with their typical $50 200/200 offer, but noticed at the bottom of the ad they mention some type of new low income internet service for California.
https://frontier.com/fundamental-internet
Does anyone here have this service?
It's $19.99 plus tax/fees. Looks like it's 50/50 if you have FIOS in your area. Also seems a lot easier to qualify for than Spectrum Internet Assist.
Thoughts?

Promo Renewal
Anyone recently; especially in the TampaBay Region, coming off their 1st year Promo had any sucess in keeping same Monthly Bill....? I will never figure out cable providers; they run there service down my street...lets say there are 30 homes....their overhead costs are the same if No one connects or 15 connect. They however all seems to be OK with losing a Customer....losing revenue....rather than keeping pricing unchanged. In other words in their world, it is better to lose a paying customer than keeping revenue coming in.

What's your experience with the NVG443B gateway?
After what I thought would be a good experience, it has been very mediocre. I've had one NVG443B gateway that ran quite well but ended up getting bricked after Frontier sent out an update for it (they update it for you if you weren't aware.) So, I got my 2nd one and it seems to perform very poorly. The 5GHz band drops regularly (disabled it), and a Frontier tech. stated that the WMM Power Save feature is also buggy so I disabled that as well. Overall after researching things, the Gateway seems to be made of suitable hardware, but just lousy Firmware structure from Frontier. What is everyone else's experience with it so far?

[Internet] Need new provider because tired of 23-48 hour SLA from Frontier
I've had enough of Frontier. We have DSL at a site in Bolsa Avenue Westminster, CA 92683 and each time when Frontier goes down, the SLA is 23-48 hours. We pay $90/mo. Who should we switch to and what is the SLA of the service you are recommending?

[FIOS] New STB and Router Required for New FIOS Bundle?
My loyalty discounts expired and I've dealt with multiple agents over the last week trying to get a clear description of my options for a new internet and TV bundle. The core, bundle price I've been offered is reasonable and has remained constant. However, there is a new revelation about something else with each agent I talk to. I won't bore you all with all of the details but here are the main takeaways and questions I have.
Multiple agents told me they could not place the order without adding a set top box. At first, it had to be a DVR and then later it could be a plain, HD STB. I don't need either as I already rent 2 cablecards and am quite happy with them. When I asked if I could immediately return the STB, I was told I would still be charged extra for it because it's required to get the bundle price. Is that really true?
I was also told the bundle includes $10 off for the wifi router for the first 12 months. The original cable modem/router I got from Verizon still works fine as does my own, newer, wifi router that I have behind it. Is this yet antoher piece of hardware I'd be forced to rent even though I don't need it?

[FIOS] Coax to splitter?
Hi Everyone,
We recently switched over from a cable connection to Frontier Communications FIOS. Here is my current setup scheme:
ONT in garage->coax from ONT to splitter->one going to secondary TV STB & another coax going to Arris NVG468MQ provided by Frontier in our backroom. On the same wall port that the coax cable is feeding to the Arris, an Ethernet cable is going from the ONT to the WAN port on my Netgear Nighthawk XR500 router. Following the directions on your "connections tradeoff" page (instruction # 6 "Primary LAN-to-WAN" (tried the LAN-to-LAN but for some reason was dropping connection and a Frontier Tech informed me that I had to use the WAN port on the Arris), I was able to successfully make my Netgear XR500 router as primary and handle all wireless and DHCP handoffs. Therefore, the Arris NVG468 is only handling TV functions. Our primary living room STB is using coax that was ran prior to us purchasing the home and I'm not sure how it is successfully communicating with the Arris NVG468. I'm assuming they are sharing the same coax connection to the Arris?? Anyhow, here is my dilemma...
I'd simply like to add a hardwired Ethernet connection using the coax cable that is feeding our primary living room STB. Is this possible using a common coax cable splitter? Can I split the coax connection and use one splitter connection side to feed the STB and the other coax splitter side to feed into a hardwired Ethernet switch, like a Netgear 5-port switch or do I need to purchase some kind of adapter? We'd like to have our media devices (XBOX one, Blu-ray player and smart TV) hardwired instead of relying on a rather poor wireless signal. Instead of using a 5-port switch, is it possible to put in place another wireless router to better the poor wireless signal we receive in that side of our home? We'd greatly appreciate any ideas and/or assistance.

Frontier's Incompetence- they seem to want bankruptcy
Frontier is a running joke in CT because they have screwed so many things up.
So I contacted Frontier to get service at a new apartment that I'm moving to in two weeks. I swear Frontier doesn't want new customers. They are making things as difficult as they possibly can, and most people would have just gotten Cox by now, but I want to try and fight them to get service so that I don't have to deal with Cox's arbitrary and capricious bandwidth caps.
I went through the process to get the new apartment added to their system (it's brand new construction) with a residential specialist, and the tiers he offered me were 45/3 or 70/3, which is idiotic, as they have apparently DOWNGRADED the tiers from 45/6 which Frontier offered for a while and was a holdover from the AT&T days. If AT&T were still running the system, they'd be offering 50/10, but no, Frontier wants to make it slower, not faster. More on that later.
So I tried to set up an installation for 45/3, and he wanted my SSN for a credit check. Hell no. Frontier has no need for that. He offers a positive ID form and wants my birth certificate or passport. Yeah right. In the meantime, someone on here tipped me off to the fact that their website still offers 45/6, but I run into the same issue where I run into a brick wall with them wanting my SSN, which they have absolutely no need for.
I called customer service to try and complete the online order for 45/6, and he said I could do the positive ID form with a college ID, but had to have it notarized. WTF? So I went back to the guy I was emailing to try and get it through without getting it notarized, which is comically stupid and unnecessary for ordering freaking INTERNET SERVICE. I told him I wanted 45/6 as advertised on the website, and he said he wouldn't offer that, go back to customer service or online, which of course online doesn't work because of the SSN brick wall.
I submitted my driver's license and college ID to the email address listed on the Positive ID form, so we'll see what comes back. If they can't get that figured out, I'll go to Frontier Direct Forum here to try and get them to straighten it out.
I swear Frontier doesn't want customers and wants to go bankrupt. This process is so much more complicated than it needs to be. They should have been able to set up an appointment easily to install 45/6 without trying to get my SSN or birth certificate or passport. The individual employees are OK, but their system is so screwed up as a whole.
I'll do as much as I can to get Frontier service, including the Direct Forum here, but if they can't manage to get their stuff together, than I'll have to go with Cox instead.

[TV] Frontier VOD formatting problems on all recent movies
All recently added wide-screen VOD titles (Cinemax, HBO, etc.) fail to correctly format and display on my TV. When the movie starts, it shows a temporary glitch, then the move starts, but with double-height black bars on top and bottom and everything stretched sideways. All actors look chubby. Circles display as ovals. 100% reproducible.
Summary:
I am aware that very wide-screen titles have black bars top&Bottom on a 16:9 TV. This is not it! Here it seems they apply the vertical shrinking twice, distorting the picture and making the black bars way wider than they should be.
All live HD programs display correctly, even from these premium channels.
All older VOD titles (any HD format and aspect ratio) display correctly.
(DVR is Arris1100VMS, newly installed a little bit over a year ago)
The DVR is connected directly to the TV via the HDMI cable that came with the DVR. The DVR output format is 1080p (tried 1080i, makes no difference). TV is set to 16:9.
Attached video shows a typical scenario.
I had a long chat with tech support and they are sending me a new box but I have the nagging feeling that this is not it. Is it possible that they compress now with the wrong setting or with an unusual codec to save HD space? Could it be an incompatibility with my TV? Does my DVR have old, incompatible decoder chips?
We did reset the DVR but it did not help (I did several times and the tech also did remotely).
Just wondering in anyone has other ideas what could cause this. Is it technical or plain incompetence? ;)
Has anyone else seen this problem?

Frontier speed cuts in CT
I documented my entire saga of not getting Frontier service in this thread:
https://www.dslreports.com/forum/r32238299-Frontier-s-Incompetence-they-seem-to-want-bankruptcy
As sort of a side note of the whole thing, I found that Frontier is cutting speeds in CT. They went from 25/3, 45/6, 90/8, and 115/12 to 25/2, 45/3, 70/3, 90/5, and 115/8 I believe. What an idiotic move on Frontier's part. It's like they've warped backwards many years in technology and haven't figured out that the cloud is here. Plus, why not offer the same speeds AT&T did? The system already supported them.
What Frontier SHOULD be doing is offering the 25/5, 50/10, 75/20 and 100/20 as their main offerings, as the AT&T U-Verse system is capable of offering them, and then retaining the existing 25/3, 45/6, etc, tiers for people who are right on the edge distance wise.

Tree leaning on Frontier facilities, what number to call?
Morning all,
Subject mostly says it all. At $work on our property there is a tree that is "leaning" on Frontier's facilities. We're concerned that a good wind storm could cause ... problems as they say. What's the best number to call to find out who is responsible for removal? $work does not care about the tree. We don't want to try to remove it ourselves due to being very close to Frontier's stuff. I don't want to call the normal number because usually when I try (no matter what C/ILEC it is) they really don't know how to deal with this when you don't have an address or phone number.
Thanks

[FIOS] Idea for an install option, would this work?
I have a 200/200 internet only FIOS install scheduled for tomorrow. My landlord would prefer not having an ethernet cable wrapped halfway around the outside of the house, but I do know that with 200/200, ethernet would be required. Would the following layout be possible instead to limit the amount of outside ethernet needed?
ONT --> Ethernet --> 1 of 2 Moca 2.0 Bonded Actiontec ECB6200 adapters --> Coax --> 2 of 2 Moca 2.0 Bonded Actiontec ECB6200 adapters --> Ethernet --> Arris Gateway or my own router
It seems doable, but not sure about the drawbacks until either my landlord or myself can come up with a better outside ethernet solution.
I also apologize if this has been answered before for this setup. I tried searching, but was unable to find specifically this setup.
