I am in Rosedale WV, been working now (The last day or so) on some Computers here that customers and friends need fixed. I was reinstalling Win 7 w/SP1 x64 on them and went to update them.
Ended up, I am given a error in the Update window, while trying to manually update, that says " Windows could not search for new updates. An error occurred while checking for new updates for your computer." They will also throw a error code 8024402c. (On all the help articles none mention DNS failure as the result of this error.) So I believe 8024402c error is a catch all error, that means 1 Million things could be wrong.
I set my Netgear 7550 to DNS 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 (Google DNS), and after several hours and much time spent trouble shooting and tweaking, then reinstalling.....Fixed it.
Frontier needs to be told they are having issues that are effecting Windows Update. On Win 7 and Win XP. It could lead to Security Issues.
I post it here because I know that ISP's watch these forums for any signs of trouble. And may call Frontier in a day or so when I get time to tell them as well.
