I was curious as to whether Frontier has any plans in the next year or two to upgrade their system in southern Illinois, especially Carbondale, to improve their speeds. It was recently announced that their competitor will be adding 1 Gbps soon. A few years ago, Frontier also announced that they would bringing a similar speed, but that only applies to those who are only a block or two from Main Street. I'm not any need of that high-speed, but it's at the point where Frontier's 3 Mbps is no longer cutting it. There are times when even simple functions, like a Windows system update, pull down the whole 3 Mbps system.
I would like to stay with Frontier. For my usage, their reliability and customer service have been excellent. However, with the rise of "smart" everything, the system as it is can't quite hold its own by 2017 requirements. I have found, if this is accurate, that there is a "low income" minimal plan that offers "Up to 10 Mbps." In other words, I have began wondering, each time a device on the system must buffer and re-buffer on a website, am I incorrect in continuing to pay almost three times the amount for speed one third that of the "welfare Internet" plan. The next thing I wonder is if the FCC and other net agencies who encourage a low income plan so that everybody can have good, minimal Internet service would consider 3 Mbps good, minimal Internet service at its price.
I guess what I'm saying is that I like the maker of my buggy. I don't know how long I can use this buggy on the highway. I've been trying to get a hold of the blacksmith, but no one at his place seems to know if he ever plans on making automobiles. Frontier has been so good to me. I don't want to sound bitter, but I want to let them know that in the modern world a measly 3 Mbps will not remain functional forever. I would rather stick around quite a while longer, so if anyone at Frontier reads these forums, get back with me and let me know what your plans are before I decide that I have to switch to the competitor.
