We live in a former AT&T U-Verse service area near Hartford, CT. I'm considering upgrading our conventional phone and DSL service to Vantage Voice and internet with more features for about the same price that we're paying now. We have no interest in their TV packages at the moment but won't rule it out for the future. We are keeping our Comcast cable for now.
I'm curious how a new installation works. We have an old 2 story house already wired for cable, along with some dead wiring for satellite installed by a previous owner, not to mention old school copper phone lines. In fact I think we have some coax outlets that don't go anywhere. Will Frontier try to use any existing wiring for their new service or will they need to run something completely new? Is it CAT5 straight from the drop? This could require some creativity and finesse because of the age of our house (thick plaster walls, old wires and wall studs in random places, etc).
I'm also curious about the quality of the HD signals as compared to Xfinity in Middletown. I know our local Xfinity system has limited bandwidth so the HD channels are overcompressed or completely missing compared to other more modern systems in the state. Again, this is not an issue for us now but we may consider Frontier TV in the future (once our beastly CRT bites the dust).
I know there were some very public problems with the initial transition from U-Verse in CT. Those didn't affect us since we're on their old copper service. Regardless, I hope that's in the past and I'd like us to join the 21st century. How is Frontier working out for you? Did you defect from Xfinity? A U-Verse holdover? How does TV compare for kids' shows and live sports? Does phone and internet work well? Any surprise price increases? Thanks in advance.
